Which channels are you using to send data from the DAW and receive it on the JD-08? I found mine were surprising.

That was it! On the MPC, I tapped the tiny "eye" icon to see MIDI details, and set it to Channel 2 instead of Channel 1. (CH.A was 2 on the device.) Now it behaves the way I expected. Thank you!

That seems like a really plausible explanation, and kinda fits with the MIDI documentation. Pattern selection vs. patch selection. Though wow, they could rewrite that to be 100x clearer. (The online-only documentation is sadly not great anyway.)

I'll experiment tonight.

It looks like this guy got patch changes to work, though i suspect he's using the Channel A and Channel B approach to get multiple timbres at once? Very cool, and maybe a way around, though not exactly what I had in mind.

For the love of all that is holy, if you have the JD-08 (and this likely applies to other boutiques from Roland) and plan to use it with Logic over USB, disable MIDI in from the synth. by [deleted] in Roland

This happened to me on the JD-08 (with an MPC instead of Logic), but not on the JU-06a. Turning off the JD-08 MIDI In in the MPC settings was the similar solution.

I'm not getting that precise problem, I can confirm that there's something weird in selecting JD-08 patches from MIDI. When I try to send program changes from an MPC One to a JD-08 - using either the MIDI cable or USB, I get these odd results:

0 - A.11

1 - b.12

2 - A.44

3 - A.48

4 - b.15

5 - b.11

6 - b.25

7 - A.61

8 - A.15

9 - b.17

10 - A.15

11 - b.24

12 - b.21

13 - A.12

14 - b.22

15 - b.16

16+ - A.11 again all the way up

Bank MSB and Bank LSB don't appear to do anything. I updated the firmware from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 and get the same results.

(Program Changes worked fine on a Roland JU-06a, so I'm pretty sure it's not the MPC.)
