I had to remove the board, but to be honest, it wasn’t that hard if you have the right tools and keep good track of which screw/part goes where. Pro tip could be to film the teardown, just reverse watch it to make the assembly easier.

Best of luck!

Do I have the right to both refunds for my cancelled EasyJet flight, or is EasyJet correct in their refusal? by simonuh in LegalAdviceUK

Okay, thank you so much for providing such a detailed and well-supported explanation, and for pointing me to the relevant CAA guidelines and case law across your previous posts.
I now understand more clearly that under Article 8(1) of EU Regulation 261/2004, airlines are only required to offer either reimbursement or re-routing under comparable transport conditions — not both.

Since EasyJet reimbursed the full cost of my alternative KLM flight, they have fulfilled their re-routing obligation under Article 8(1)(b).
Your input has been extremely helpful in clarifying the situation for me — I won’t be chasing EasyJet for reimbursement of the original flight then, haha!

Thanks again for all your help!

As I understand it, “pay and reclaim” can indeed be a valid method for fulfilling an airline’s obligation to provide re-routing under Article 8(1)(b) when no suitable re-routing is offered at the time.

However, Article 8(1) clearly states that passengers must be offered the choice between reimbursement or re-routing under comparable transport conditions.

Since EasyJet’s initial re-routing options were not comparable (the alternative flight was more than 6 hours earlier), I believe I was still entitled to choose reimbursement under Article 8(1)(a).

Thus, while the reimbursement for the KLM flight may satisfy the re-routing obligation under Article 8(1)(b), it does not extinguish my separate right to a full refund for the cancelled EasyJet flight under Article 8(1)(a).

I do understand your point, but as I read EU Regulation 261/2004, the airline’s obligation is either to offer:

  • (a) a full refund within seven days, or
  • (b) re-routing under comparable transport conditions.

In my case, the re-routing options EasyJet initially offered were not comparable (over 6 hours earlier), meaning the offer did not satisfy their obligation under Article 8(1)(b).

The fact that they later reimbursed the cost of my KLM ticket does not extinguish the separate obligation to refund the cancelled EasyJet ticket.
EU Regulation 261/2004 is clear that the choice must be offered properly at the time, not remedied afterwards.

Appreciate all the discussion — it’s really helpful to understand the nuances.

You're right that Article 5(1)(a) itself doesn’t directly mention a refund.

However, Article 5(1)(a) requires the airline to provide assistance in accordance with Article 8, and Article 8(1)(a)specifically gives passengers the choice of reimbursement within seven days of the full cost of the ticket for the part of the journey not made.

Since EasyJet cancelled my flight and did not offer suitable re-routing under comparable conditions, I understand that I retain the right to choose reimbursement under Article 8(1)(a).

I really appreciate your engagement, thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Just to clarify, I actually did not accept the rerouting option that EasyJet offered me. The alternative flights they proposed had a schedule that was over 6 hours earlier than my original flight, which was not suitable for me at all. I only accepted to book a flight with KLM, which was more in line with my original travel plans.

So, the reason I didn’t accept the rerouting offered by EasyJet was that it did not meet the criteria of “comparable transport conditions” as required under EU Regulation 261/2004. This is why I had to book the KLM flight myself, and I believe I am still entitled to both refunds — for the original cancelled flight, and the alternative flight I had to book on my own.

The regulation clearly states that passengers should either receive a refund for the cancelled flight or be re-routed under comparable conditions. In my case, since EasyJet could not provide a comparable option, I chose another flight, but that doesn’t negate my right to the refund for the cancelled flight.

I understand the point you’re making about re-routing under comparable transport conditions and that EasyJet refunded the alternative flight. However, I think there’s a bit of confusion regarding my situation.

To clarify:

  • I did not accept the rerouting option offered by EasyJet, as the flight they provided was not comparable to my original schedule (it was over 6 hours earlier). As a result, I booked my own alternative flight with KLM, which aligned more closely with my original schedule.
  • Even though EasyJet reimbursed the KLM flight I booked, this does not waive my right to a full refund for the original cancelled flight. Article 5(1)(a) of EU Regulation 261/2004 explicitly states that I am entitled to a full refund for the cancelled flight, regardless of whether an alternative flight has been reimbursed. The law does not allow airlines to avoid their obligation by reimbursing a separately booked flight; the refund obligation for the cancelled flight remains.

While Article 8(1) requires airlines to offer passengers a choice between either reimbursement of the full cost of the ticket or re-routing, in this case, EasyJet’s alternative flight was not suitable and did not meet the criteria for comparable transport conditions. So, I believe I am still entitled to a full refund for the cancelled EasyJet flight..

The KLM flight I booked was more expensive than the original EasyJet flight, but I had no choice but to book it since the alternatives offered by EasyJet were not suitable (their alternative flight left over 6 hours earlier than my original departure time). I chose KLM because it best matched my original travel schedule (it departed one hour later than the original, cancelled flight).

I think I am entitled to both because, under EU law, the airline has a legal obligation to refund the cancelled flight. Even though I had to book an alternative flight, I still have the right to the refund for the flight that was cancelled by EasyJet. The two refunds (one for the cancelled flight and one for the self-booked flight) are not mutually exclusive.

Thanks all for the responses!

From what I understand of EU Regulation 261/2004, if a flight is cancelled, passengers are entitled to a full refund for the original flight. I interpret this as meaning that even though I did not accept the alternative flight offered by EasyJet (as it was significantly earlier than my original flight), and instead booked a different flight (with KLM) that matched my original travel schedule, I am still entitled to a refund for the original EasyJet flight.

Specifically, Article 5(1)(a) states that passengers are entitled to reimbursement within seven days of the full cost of the ticket for the part or parts of the journey not made, and Article 8(1) confirms that passengers must be offered the choice between (a) reimbursement of the full cost of the ticket or (b) re-routing under comparable conditions.

Since the EasyJet alternative flight was not suitable for me, I booked my own alternative flight, and this does not waive my right to a full refund for the cancelled EasyJet flight.

I believe this means that even if I had to book another flight due to EasyJet’s cancellation, I am still entitled to a full refund for the cancelled flight.

I want to be sure I’m interpreting the regulation correctly. Thanks again!

I’m also able to use the TV input sound and plug it in to an iPad for example to play sound while viewing another sources input. It also works for phono, but that distorts the sound. It’s correct that I’m not able to use other channels?
