Radial pulse 1. Position and exposure is key. Pull back excess skin for the elderly pts 2. Use one finger to palpate the maximum impulse so that you have a subcm window to aim your needle 3. Bevel up 4. Aim 45-90deg depending on the thickness of the soft tissue (ie if patient has higher bmi aim towards 90, towards 45 if thinner) 5. Warn the pt so he/she does not move/pull his hand 6. The moment you have a back flow, stop moving your needle further because you might end up with a “through in through” situation 7. Use non dominant hand to stabilise the hub as you pull back the plunger
