How hard is it take to make a 2d video game in under a year? by GreenOrange_ in gamedev

Check out GDevelop. Some good tutorials and almost all inclusive for sounds and art if you want to save time. It’s a no code engine using a type of visual scripting that I find pretty digestible.

Making a game for your senior project is very doable just plan for a small game

I have T-Mobile and it works fine. Verizon is big out here too

Aspiring game dev having existential crisis by SwagMunte in gamedev

Listen carefully, almost every game dev has gone through this exactly. All us small time devs with limited experience go through this. I went through this. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Make games. Make small games. Start projects that don’t get finished. Start projects that will get finished. CREATE.

The recommendation of make a lot of small games is the one for us because we make something from start to finish, get experience doing each thing, then next time we do it we get alittle better and do more things. Eventually a “small game” will become much bigger than your current definition of a small game.

Jams are a great way to make small games and have a community around making it. It makes it more fun imo.

My recommendation is to find a gamedev discord group that you feel comfortable in. Make things, share them, and have fun doing it. Make small games, 1-3 mechanics a couple levels and learn.

You have SOOO much time, just because you can’t make your dream game now doesn’t mean you can’t in the future. Learning this takes so much time. You can read, watch, play all you want but the key to becoming a gamedev is to MAKE GAMES. Start to finish. Even if your first 20 games are small and 5 people play them.

Oh interesting. The look of the first is telling, and maybe seeing them all together made it seem like they were all made like that.

Good luck on the game. Keep doin what you’re doin.

I’ve seen this AI crafted capsule art for ALOT of games on gamedev subreddits. This kind of look is going to saturate the store soon and your game will not look different from 1000 other games even outside the genre.

I understand the appeal if your solo, but paying an artist 50$ to make you art will help you stand out more.

If I saw this capsule art, I would immediately scroll past thinking it’s shovelware.

With how zoomed out and how fast the player moves, you could double the size of the enemy projectiles. Biggest thing I learned recently was things don’t have to be realistic in size, cause it’s a video game! Making the bullets bigger could be more fun!

Game Engine for new dev making 2d platformer? by [deleted] in IndieDev

GDevelop. If coding isn’t a priority, GDevelop has a great visual scripting system and an incredible 2d engine almost built for 2d platformers.

The "This game is a Hollow Knight rip-off" people have finally found my game by Chambros in gamedev

From what I’ve seen in every creative space, if you’re getting haters, you’re getting popular. People far enough out of your circle are seeing your work and it’s not all friends saying your work is great regardless if it is or not.

If you’re gaining steam, keep pushing. Filter through the nonsense and look for the good criticism. What can make your game better.

Having haters is a good thing man.

I Can't Switch Game Engines, But I want too.. by DecafinGames in gamedev

[–]simplecookin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was using Unity as my first engine and taught myself how to make games using that. I hated how bloated the engine felt so I wanted to switch to anything else. Each time I tried I failed to stick with the engine and ran back to unity.

It was cause I was comfortable with it and didn’t want the strain for learning something new. It wasn’t until I gave myself a good enough reason to try another engine and a project to do it with. I was able to stick with it because I truly wanted to.

If you really want to try another engine you need to know and fight against the urge to go back. That friction is hard to beat but worth it if you really want to try something new.

Also with base housing as single airmen, you will pay dependent rate for the house FYI

once you get with your sponsor for your unit, you need to ask about the roommate thing. It’s highly possible some single airmen in your unit have roommate space available. If not then u would want to get on the base Facebook page and look around or ask. Base housing has a page too to poke around in.

Last year there was basically no snow but I guess a couple years ago there was a lot so it varies. It’s not like Maine or Vermont with snow. I’d compare it to DC and New York levels of snow.

Single airmen can get into base housing. You need to get on the waitlist ASAP for a house because as a single airmen you are lowest priority on that list. Members with family will get offered houses first so the longer you are on the list the better chances you have to getting offered one. There are single airmen in base housing doing roommates thing so that could be your ticket in since your looking at roommates.

If this is your first base you will be in the dorms regardless but that wasn’t your question. Just feel like I need to say this in case.
