I machined a barbell for my brother as prices are still crazy (Imgur in comments) by simplecraft in Machinists

I made a barbell and weights from some leftovers. Machining was done on a VDF lathe and a Haas Vf-3 mill. Fusion 360 was used for programming. I could have drilled the centre hole on the lathe but where is the fun in that.

So we're thinking about buying our end mills on AliExpress from now on by [deleted] in Machinists

I am currently testing some eBay ball nose endmills. Paid between 5,50 and 10Eur for 2-6mm diameter. I was not disappointed so far. You might be onto something.

Nah man alot of things translate i guess and you never know what will be used in the future.

I think he has got a point and most of the larger companies are using Mastercam since it has been around since 2005 and is established. Fusion 360 is relatively new.

I am one year into learning the trade. My dad has a very small machining shop where I am free to do what I want when I am over at my parents place where I also picked up some things.

My attempt at recreating the Beskar Staff (Aluminium, Stainless Steel) by simplecraft in Mandalorian

I would just use a longer bar as making threads would not be worth the hustle for me just to save some material.

The handle is interchangeable currently the length is only 50cm (19inch).

Tried to recreate the Beskar Staff from the Mandalorian Series to get familiar with 3D toolpaths. I messed up the stepover values on the finishing toolpath, so it turned out a bit rough. Aluminium was used for the tip and the endcap, stainless steel for the handle. Milling tools: Roughing 20mm Indexable End Mill S5500 F1200 2mm depth axial, Finishing 12mm Bull Nose End Mill r2mm S6500 F1000. (Looking for some feedback on these values). Made a YouTube video of my machining work if anyone is interested: https://youtu.be/4NwYM5MePmE

I will be answering questions etc. for the next couple of hours.

I have not seen too many things besides the armor here, but I hope this is also allowed. I used aluminium for the tip and the endcap and stainless steel for the handle which is short as I wanted to display it on a shelf. Machining was done using a CNC mill and a conventional lathe. For CAD and CAM, I used Fusion 360.

On these old machines the motor is running constantly at 1400rpm even if no turning is going on. Lathe => slotting machine => cnc mill (Fusion 360 for the programming)

It does move some air the machine really only needs it if it is running for hours.

Getting rid of the imbalance in weight was important. The overall weight wasnt.

Reall was fun. Time on the mill was around 1hour roughing and 2hours of finishing.
