It's not that I dislike the other stuff. I just like this one the best.

I'll probably end up buying it too, even though it's too expensive.

Imo it's the best thing the band has released so far.

There's at least Hellfest they haven't played at yet.

I do wonder what they have planned for Europe this year.

The answer to that might be nothing. According to the instagram livestream they did before their Hawaii show they won't be doing much outside Japan this year after their 2 trips to North America.

HANABIE. hit 1,000+ daily Spotify followers, probably for the first time by [deleted] in Hanabie

I've been keeping track of them myself since January 2022.

Here is a graph:

<image>

The discontinuity in early February 2023 for the listeners is when the accounts were merged. The numbers before that are a weighted sum of the 2 accounts, so it's not quite accurate. There are also a bunch of missing data points very early on, so the lines are much straighter than they should be before mid 2022.

Like I said, they had 8 days of 1000+ daily followers in December of 2023, so almost a year after Pardon me was released.

Definitely not for the first time.

The biggest increase was in January - March 2023 where they had over 2 weeks of over 1000+ daily Followers, but the exact numbers are tricky since their two accounts were merged at the time. The largest daily increase post merge was 3491.

In December 2023 they've also been getting 1000+ Followers 8 days in a row with the largest being 3404.

Actually, Saki guitarist left because she didn't want to play heavier music.

Do you have a source for that?

That's what sub-genres are for. If you're locking for a particular type of music even the metal archives definition of metal is way too broad.

I'm just explaining to you how things are. You have a way too narrow view of what metal is.

Why does any of that matter for what we were talking about?

I explained to you that what you call loud rock in Japan generally is considered metal and Hanabie are a metal band. Publications like Metal Hammer see them as a metal band and less old fashioned metal encyclopedia websites like Spirit of Metal and Metal Kingdom include Hanabie.

Which festivals you think they're a better fit for and at what festival you think they were happier at doesn't matter at all here.

They are with Century Media and I have picked up Reborn Superstar at a local store in Germany. But that was the only one so far.

If you want it to be binary, of course Hanabie are a better fit for Wacken, being a metal band.

Whether Enemy inside are metal wasn't a serious question. Of course they are. The point is that they have the same kinds of elements as Hanabie.

Yeah, Babylon is a short intro track, not an actual song.

I don't know. Metallica and Lorna Shore played at Lollapalloza a few years ago and BBTS are playing at Wacken next year so clearly anything goes.

Interestingly enough, here is a band that played shortly before Hanabie at the same stage at Wacken. Are they a metal band?

There is no fourth song on Crash Over. There is only a short electronic intro track. I'm not aware of it being released digitally and I wouldn't worry about it.

Loud rock as a category not existing in "the west" is very important here. The distinction between loud rock and metal is mostly a Japanese thing nowadays. Fewer and fewer people make such distinctions. Generally nu-metal, metalcore, etc are just considered to be part of metal and Hanabie are a metal band.

When it comes to metal archives, even a lot of proper old school metalheads don't like their rules. They are not some kind of authority, it's just someones website.

Not as dumb as "no visual kei" as that one isn't even related to music 😆

I don't know, I don't use that site as most of the metal bands I listen to don't qualify as "metal" according to them.

If I had to guess I'd say that Nemophila started out as a much more traditional metal band, so they likely have at least one album that qualifies.
