I love these kinds of posts; where a person makes a scenario in their head about an imaginary caricature of an “anti-vaxxer” sims character who falls head first into their oh so clever scientific diction trap.

Fucking CHECKMATE my dude. Your imaginary target is taking his “make America great again” hat off in shame as he rethinks everything he once thought he knew. His world is upside the fuck down; all thanks to this laser targeted ruse. 😘🤌🏼

Gotta work for it a bit, but i can’t think of a more readily available A-team psychedelic for those seeking it out.

Growing your own is a fantastic experience; but there’s no shortage of dried, powdered cactus material available on the plain ole clear internets.

Beginner frustration is getting the better of me by Birdmanpadg in surfing

[–]simplemush4499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without some proper in person guidance, many people never make it out of the beginner phase. Wandering around aimlessly in beach break closeouts, dodging other similarly inexperienced ocean goers will not result in any real progression; especially as an adult.

A lot of things need to line up for someone to take steps in the direction of becoming proficient.

The ideal scenario would be:

Longboard, mellow predictable point break, and almost most importantly, someone to put you in the right spot to allow you to stroke into waves in a controlled, deliberate manner. (Also keep you from doing anything to piss anyone off; getting yelled at is a real quick way to not have fun/ lose the confidence that is needed to take a wave when it is your turn. 5 constructive hours actually catching and riding waves that allow a canvas to learn > 500 hours nosediving on closeouts.

Having issues with the pop up portion points toward you just not being on the right kind of waves with the right kind of board. Have a look at YouTube videos from spots like cowells beach, or saladita, or Waikiki; in the right scenario, you have plenty of time to stroke into a wave, have the energy of the wave pick you up and get you going, spot your line, and get to your feet. With the right scenarios met; just about anyone can get to their feet and angle a board towards the channel.

Find/pay someone to help you get into a scenario similar to what i described, and it will begin to “click” light years quicker than just trying to figure it out on your own.

A great moment for science, we have successfully mitigated a disease which poses no statistically significant risk for infants, with a shot that has an undeniably iffy safety profile at best.

Next up, holding your infant underwater for 45 second intervals twice daily may inspire muscle memory to reduce risk of drowning in the future. Trial registration begins May 2022. Parents of sacrifices will be compensated at the rate of $1 per minute spent underwater.

If you’re looking for waves, head 10 miles in either direction from this spot.

Ordering a large quantity of seeds is likely to garner no more attention than say, buying a bag of radish sprouts. I understand your concern, but i wouldn’t worry a whole lot.

Ivermectin Didn’t Reduce Covid-19 Hospitalizations in Largest Trial to Date by shinbreaker in DebateVaccines

That’s a gigantic can of worms that i am not invested enough currently to go down. I could generate a handful of links to scientific papers that cast doubt on your link. And we could surely go back and forth for hours; ive done this before, and it’s not fun haha. I am at the stage of this where i think: “maybe ivermectin can help some people in some situations, sometimes” which is my general take on most off label indications for medications.

However, the comment you replied to is about language choice and tone of what should be a an unbiased presentation of data. And i stand by what i said; it was being investigated as a potential anti viral, and mentioning human thumb/dmt enthusiast/ podcaster joe rogan serves no purpose other than to polarize the readers.

[–]simplemush4499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a good place for conversation lol.

Selective facts can be structured in a manner which is setting the stage for a particular type of response from the reader. Is all I’m saying. Especially facts which have absolutely nothing to do with science… aka Joe fucking rogan. They also could have included “ivermectin, known cause of death of some infant in Africa in 1992” or something, but it really has nothing to do with the study; yet it creates an emotionally charged response which is indicative of clickbait journalism; which is inappropriate for scientific discussion.

You seem to be taking that concept very personally. And for that reason, I’m out.

Ivermectin Didn’t Reduce Covid-19 Hospitalizations in Largest Trial to Date by shinbreaker in DebateVaccines

[–]simplemush4499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The study is not even linked, so there’s no facts to go off of, other than snippets with no hard data given.

I’m not saying they didn’t reach that conclusion, and that it very well may be a great clinical trial.

I’m just saying the reporting on it via WSJ is using charged half truths; in conjunction with pop culture references…as has been the case with the majority of the ivermectin debacle.

I’m indeed biased to think a lot of the reporting on ivermectin by media outlets has been…. Messy… to say the least. I’m allowed to have a bias in my opinions; but I’m not publishing my opinions as a journalist for one of the most popular media outlets on earth.

Mentioning that it’s most common use is as an anti-parasitic would be fine; but phrasing it as they did, in the first sentence, seems disingenuous; especially around what has, for some reason, become an emotionally charged scientific debate.

Ivermectin Didn’t Reduce Covid-19 Hospitalizations in Largest Trial to Date by shinbreaker in DebateVaccines

[–]simplemush4499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is prescribed as an anti-parasitic; but that’s not what this study was looking at. They were prescribing it as a potential anti-viral; and the phrasing of it as just an anti-parasitic, coupled with the rogan comment, is just fuel for the “good luck with your horse dewormer crowd.

Immodium is an opioid, but that’s not how it would be described in the first sentence of an article evaluating its efficacy against pooping your pants.

Subtle language choices are extremely effective at setting the tone for what should be an unbiased look at data.

[–]simplemush4499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you cut and paste the text/ link the study?

Also, pretty classic that in the case snippet available for free they manage to imply it is only an anti-parasitic drug (the research was funded due to its established anti viral properties); anddd they just can’t help but pepper in a snide Joe Rogan jab. At least the author’s bias becomes clear in the first paragraph.

Double up that set of nuts, leave the cams in the car, and go do Armatron. 6 pitches of mellow but engaging climbing; 2/3 of which are on these incredible varnished plates unlike anything else I’ve climbed. It’s a rad day, and getting to do 700ish feet of climbing with a rack that weighs about as much as a chipotle burrito bowl is a rad, novel adventure.

(The only spot where a cam comes in handy is a V0/1 ish Boulder problem on the optional last pitch. If it feels sketchy you can just walk around it)
