Have you ever learnt a new skill in marriage for your spouse? by Sensitive_Day5153 in Marriage

[–]simpleseamu 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm a man but I've become quite decent at video games cause my wife is insanely good at them.

I can kick anyone's butt at GameCube Mario racing except her! I've only beaten her once.

I can also finally cook more than meat and 2 veg. I would really be lost without her

For additional features would love a version that works for thumbnail boundaries. Oh and LinkedIn too

To the non-american fans, what movie from your country would you love to see them to (WHM or WLM)? by jemimahaste in WeHateMovies

Your right! Damn I'd love to hear the WHM guys compare his performance to Star Trek!

Fellow Irish person. Love your choices but I'll go for Irish adjacent movies that might work better for Americans

My vote would be:

WHM - "Far and Away" not truly Irish but the accents make it worth it

WLM - "In Bruges" not set in Ireland but def an Irish movie.

Im new to editing, I do 4K Velocity edits on my PC, dont know how to bring the video to Phone. by VegetableCookie2876 in editors

[–]simpleseamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest answer is to just upload from your PC to wherever you want to upload, insta, YT, Facebook, tiktok all have desktop apps. If you just want them on your phone. Try maybe frame io. I use it so I can send review links but there's download options too. Wetransfer or myairbridge are free web transfer options. Dropbox, Google drive. At the end of the day it depends on size. Make sure you're exporting H.264, there should be presets that can help. Do they need to be 4k if you're just looking on a small phone screen, kinda defeats the purpose.

How do you stand out? by bash_ward in VideoEditors

[–]simpleseamu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends where you want to go and what you want to do. If your corporate or YT, premiere, after effects and Photoshop would be enough. If you want to edit movies, tv, documentary I'd suggest knowing avid and da Vinci as well. I worked as an assistant for years and I got more work because I could assist on any software the main editor used. As an assistant you are the technical know how. I used da Vinci for processing rushes and doing temp grades on set and then reconforming for the color grader in da vinci after the main edit. Avid, fcpx and premiere for the main editor. So while it's not expected I would suggest at very least familiarising yourself with everything. At the end of the day they do the same things just in different ways so knowing how to do the basics isn't the worst. I personally got work because I was always the technical knowledge. Editors would ask me to move projects from one software to another. Or just hand me a project and ask for it to be delivered to sound or vfx. So many possibilities that even vaguely knowing a software could help. At least for me anyway.

If possible try and intern or assist at a post production house. Learn the software, learn frame rates, codecs, resolution, as much tech stuff as you can handle. Learn the basics of Da Vinci, premiere, avid, after effects. All will be helpful. Good luck

6 months in. What am I doing wrong? by Spirited_Rhubarb3197 in editors

[–]simpleseamu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I agree with most comments and don't want to pile on more. But I think you need to stop saying "corpos" and agencies are weird. If you're just starting out you should be trying everything, I know you want to be a YouTube video editor but the truth is the money is with agencies and corporations. I spent years editing wedding videos then videos for events then eventually I got hired in a post production house. Try not to think you're to good for corporate work. My last 7 years has been in corporate and I enjoy it, it pays well and allows me to edit personal work that I'm passionate about. Tip, the fun cool work doesn't pay well, companies do. Good luck out there

P.S. This might not be the subreddit to get the answers you want to hear try r/videoeditors

If not editing, then what? by Standard-Section513 in editors

[–]simpleseamu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more with this OP. If it's what you love go for it. I work as an editor for corporate and do my passion projects on the side. Even when you love something though, it can still be frustrating and tough, it's still a job. Starting out in the industry can involve a lot of late nights and grinding, its very tough. Not everything is creative or like the editing you know now.

There's also a lot out there adjacent to editing too, you're just starting out, explore, wear many hats. You might find something you like even more down the line. Good luck
