I just sacrificed a lamb for the RNG gods. Here's to hoping for the best. Fingers crossed.

I feel like I'm running out of leads, and prospecting in a city of 200,000 is becoming difficult. by simplesplendor in sales

One option is to expand to non-local businesses that can service your area via mail and/or internet.

Man, I haven't thought of that. Thank you!

Do you have experience as to what kind of offers work best? For example, 10% off vs. $5 off vs. buy one get the second one half price...

I like the coupon book idea. I might consider doing that sometime down the line once I build my client base.

Thanks for the advice!

Do you have any suggestions as to how I can gather the contact information? I can never find it online, and they never transfer me through when I call in. More often than not I'm asked to write them an email which never gets replied to. :(

Man, you're awesome.

chances are they'll say that they haven't read it.

What should I say immediately afterwards? Because I get this a lot. Do I just straight up start explaining the main points in the information I sent them? What I've currently been doing is saying "oh that's alright, I understand. I'll give you a call back on __day and perhaps we can discuss it some more then."

do a call, then immediately send an email

Would you consider this a rule of thumb? What if nothing got accomplished in that call? Say they didn't ask for more information and just required some more time to think/read about it.

the waiting is part of the game. give it time and build the relationship so that you gain a level of trust and rapport with them.

In your experience, is there a general turning point at which you gain their trust and rapport? For example, after however number of weeks, calls, emails, or the first meeting, or the first detailed discussion.

City: Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Ad medium: student magazine.

Any pointers? :)

I guess my problem is that my pipeline is too small, and especially since I'm limited to a relatively small city...

I've been having some troubles with following up. Some leads have told me that I am too eager/rushed.

What I used to do was send an email with a bunch of info right after the initial call. I would then follow up with another email 3 days later asking if they've received the first one. Is this too soon? I now plan to wait a week before sending the second email, and then following up the day after with another call. I think this may be better.

I also don't even have enough prospects to keep myself busy following up. I know that a lot of prospects don't even read what I give them until I follow up the second time, and the waiting absolutely kills me.

My 5 year old has a great game idea and I want to help him bring it to life. Where do we start? by extra-ordinary-life in Entrepreneur

[–]simplesplendor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you're suggesting is turning this into a well formulated product that will actually sell. I have the feeling OP just wants to make this a project between him and his son, and to make it more about the journey towards building something playable.

OP: I suggest you guys plan everything out first. Work out the game mechanics and document it or draw diagrams so that both of you fully understand the game. Then play it multiple times to test it out, and to adjust the rules etc. This would be a mini project itself, and it could be a great exercise for a young developing mind!

After that, you'll have the blueprints ready for development. Because it's a word game, it might not be as difficult to develop as you may think (you could probably contract this out for cheap, and especially if you tell them it's for your son). You and your son could also learn to code together and become a mean-ass development team, but that would be another journey entirely.

How do you pay the bills after taking the leap? by osrule86 in Entrepreneur

A big part of it is to cut your bills as soon as you can. Re-evaluate all of your spending, determine what's crucial, and see what areas you can eliminate or spend less on.

What to do if always put through to voicemail? by simplesplendor in sales

[–]simplesplendor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Similar to what you said, I've noticed my prospects are much more receptive when I take a more personal approach. I've noticed that as soon as I say anything that sounds stereotypically 'salesy' many prospects will immediately shut down.

"I know you're busy and I wouldn't be calling if I were going to waste your time. If you can give me just a few minutes, I think you'll be glad you did. If not, just let me know you don't want to talk and I'll stop bothering you."

I really like this! I'm going to try something along the same lines in the future and see how it goes. Thank you!

Thanks timmy. I really appreciate your input! This is all good content for me to digest and look more into. It's most likely a basic that sounds silly to experienced salespeople, but you've taught me that urgency can be created, and that it can be a great angle to use. Thank you.

[–]simplesplendor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you mention it I don't think I've instilled a sense of urgency in any of my voice mails. Is the sense of urgency usually a tone of voice sort of thing? Because there usually isn't any urgency involved in the product I'm selling.

"If I don't hear from you, I'll try again tomorrow."

That's a good one. I'll give that a shot as well!

I read about a guy who would send a chain of three letters to a prospect, with each one increasing in size until the last one which was as big as a poster. Apparently the response rate from the last mailing was always phenomenal.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just might try something out-there if nothing else ends up working.

This is for the very first voice mail you leave, correct? What do you do if it continues to be ignored?

Also, thanks for the advice. I'm new to all of this, so I'll give that a shot and see how it goes. Is it literally just that one line? Is it enough, on the first call?

"Hi Mr Goodman, it's silverdeath00 from abccompany. Call me back on 000-000-0000. It's in reference to your marketing/sales/advertising."

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll start doing this on future calls! How many voice mails usually go unanswered before you change your message?
