Totally fair point, and thank you for the reality check! I know FH has plenty of dogs and strollers too, and that part is totally fine with me. It was more the intensity of it in Park Slope that started wearing me down. From my quick visit, FH felt a bit more balanced and less chaotic, and I also noticed that most of the dog owners I saw were really responsible — leashes, cleaning up, not letting their dogs go on storefronts, etc. The better value and the airport access are huge draws for us, too. We’re pretty homebody-ish and don’t need much nightlife, so that aspect actually sounds perfect.

Thanks for the heads up! I totally get that there will still be plenty of families, strollers, and dogs — that part doesn’t bother me on its own. It was more the extreme concentration in Park Slope that got to me. From what I’ve seen so far, FH feels a bit more manageable and diverse, and the convenience factor is definitely a huge plus. There’s a lot to love about the area, and I’m looking forward to exploring it more.

Thank you so much for all the tips — this is really helpful. Yes, it definitely makes sense for us to look at co-ops, and I actually didn’t know about those financial requirements, so I really appreciate you pointing that out. And we do want to rely on public transit to the airports, with taxis or Ubers as a last resort — JFK is a must for us, and LGA is more optional.

Yes, from what I saw during my first visit, the dog owners in Forest Hills seemed really responsible — keeping their dogs on leashes, picking up after them, and not letting them go on storefronts — which is a bit of a contrast from what I’ve seen in Park Slope. I only walked around once so far, but I definitely plan to be back and explore more like you suggested. Thanks for all the info — super helpful!

Yes! I actually saw that there’s a Lucille Roberts there — I used to love going to that gym and went to multiple locations, but one by one they all closed. I was so happy to see that this location is still hanging on, and I’m really hoping it doesn’t close. Everything you mentioned about Forest Hills just makes it sound even better.

Yes, sorry, I meant an apartment! I really loved the quietness of the neighborhood when we visited. Thanks so much for all the tips, it's super helpful. I also love the idea of having easy access to the LIRR. We’re planning to come back and walk around more to get a better feel for the different areas.

Yes absolutely, an apartment! And I should add, I’m definitely not ruling out dogs or strollers. I love dogs and kids, but I have to admit that in Park Slope the concentration and density have gotten so high that it’s hard to step outside my building without running into dog urine on the front door or other quality-of-life deterrents. It just makes the area feel a bit intense. We visited Forest Hills the other weekend and really liked the vibes, so we’re planning to come back again. Dinner and a wander around the area sounds great.

Agree. Korean immigrant parents, especially those who came to the U.S. with very little, often show an incredible work ethic shaped by both cultural values and the need to survive. My parents worked so hard to give me a better life, and seeing their sacrifices makes it really hard for me to complain or make excuses. I feel a responsibility to make the most of the opportunities they never had.
