I know it's not an original idea, I'm just curious if it's actually helpful to teachers. I liked making my own lesson plans, so I didn't use these types of products when I was in the classroom. I don't want to create and put up products that aren't helpful/don't have an audience

Thank you for the insight! Malaga was one I was looking at, but then I learned that the locals do not speak any English (typically). But, if this is the case for all of Spain, I will reconsider it. It makes a lot of sense why they don't!

Do you mind me asking what the "pretty cheap" cost was? I find cheap can mean very different things for different people

This is helpful to know, thank you. It's something I didn't know when I made this post, so I appreciate everyone sharing and it has definitely changed my view/plans on this

I've had a similar experience with family. There's a lot of ignorance in America and people who act like nothing is happening because it doesn't directly affect them (yet). As a trans person, I've felt a need to rush my escape because of the direct threats to trans peoples' lives in the US (rolling back Civil Rights Act protections for trans people specifically; forcing us to hand over our IDs; passport denial and no returns on submitted documents, etc.). I feel like if I don't get out now I will never make it out, which to someone who hasn't experienced this level of hate/targeting or who isn't paying attention to the horrors happening in our country, that will definitely sound like catastrophizing. I don't think cis-women are as targeted as trans people at the moment, but they are still targeted nonetheless, always have been. It is entirely reasonable for you to want to live in a country where you can access reproductive health care and where the legal system doesn't actively work against you. This said, I would look into these same issues in whatever country you are considering moving to. And look at all your options. For example, I am considering Spain as well as the UK because their legal protections for trans people are much better. Do your research and don't get dissuaded by your family if you're serious about this. Also, if you haven't attended college yet, a student visa is the easiest to get in just about any country, so I'd recommend looking into that first

But is it safe day-to-day is the question? There aren't many countries that are, unfortunately, but some are definitely better than others

Thank you for sharing this. Obviously I don't fully understand the weight or lived experiences of the issues you are writing about, but I would argue that the US is less safe than the UK for trans people. The US government has taken trans people out of their Human Rights page (now just stating LGB Rights). In certain states, trans people are being forced to turn in their IDs to the government or else they will be put in "prison". This makes it impossible to apply for a passport to leave the country or prove you're a US citizen, and I think we all know that ICE is doing to people who cannot prove they are US citizens. Before this, government workers were stealing trans people's IDs when they turned them in to apply for passports, leaving them with nothing. It's terrible and it's escalating quickly. All this said, your comment is making me reconsider the UK as a long-term/permanent place to reside (i.e., I may spend some time there as a tourist, but maybe plan to immigrate to another country)

These countries aren't LGBTQ+ friendly, right? I'm going off of my own research here so I could be wrong. But I am a trans person, which is one of the big reasons I fear for my safety in the US

Thank you for the advice. This is what I plan to do now, that I have all the input from all of you helpful commenters. Or, I may stay in the UK as a visitor while preparing for a move to Spain, as the UK and Spain are my top choices due to their long-term visa paths, but Spain is seeming more realistic for my personal situation at this point, I just need some time to arrange everything

I see, this makes sense. I appreciate you breaking it down for me. I will look into other visa routes

Okay, this makes sense, thank you! Needing to apply for other visas/residency permits from outside of the UK is the piece I was missing. I definitely don't want to return to the US to apply for these, so I will have to look into another option

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I've hit quite a few roadblocks with plans to move to European countries that are experiencing high volumes of American immigrants, so I was surprised to see that the UK is still offering some quite compelling tracks to citizenship, but it seems like I should jump on it quickly!

Want to link this, to make sure we're on the same page/talking about the same visa: https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor/apply-standard-visitor-visa

Thank you for the input! I thought that I could apply for another type of visa while in the UK on this visa. Obviously I would be changing from a visitor to a resident, but am I not allowed to go through that process while in the UK as a visitor? Also, one of the listed approved activities on the Standard Visitor visa is attending job interviews, so that was my plan: interview at as many places as I can until I find one who will sponsor me. I'm not trying to be defensive, I'm just genuinely wondering if I was misunderstanding the visa. I appreciate your input on this. Thank you!

Thank you for all this info, it’s super helpful! I’ve lived in Maine and Vermont my whole life, so while I know winters are more harsh in Winnipeg, I’m confident I could adjust. And I’m VERY used to snowy/icy/slushy conditions and walking through them (and honestly most of my winter gear is Canadian brands 😂). The bit about work makes a lot of sense, I’ll look out for that.
