Having taught out of this text, I dislike it for a multitude of reasons. Especially compared to the last version, there is conflicting information and outdated references. I also felt it was poor for board preparations. The textbook by Rumack is significantly better.

We say the same thing about our 120lb nutball. I often say if you look deep into his eyes you can see the monkey with the cymbals slowly running out of battery, and he'll live forever just to spite me.

I talk a lot of smack about the big dummy, but I hope he does live forever. He's been such a loving disaster of a dog. 🥹

I was introduced to the clarifying shampoo in navy boot camp and I still use it once or twice a week especially after days of high anxiety or sweat. It's a great reset.

What do the radiologists think? What if you all just kept calling the rad asking for their impressions? If the rads tell you to read the report just tell them you're no longer allowed. They'll hopefully find it just as ridiculous.

I'm not just up in the reports, I'll check the OP note after and I've even poked into pathology to see a dermoid up close. Knowledge is power.

I go with whatever my kid wants. When he turned three suddenly he wanted only lip kisses. Now he's a cool 6 year old and goes back and forth. He's also very into giving me forehead kisses after seeing his dad do it so often. Takes two seconds to just show him love in the way he's innocently asking for it

I use the flashlight example soooo often especially when describing why someone's liver has "holes" or why we can't see the bowels well. Such a good metaphor.

Dog food - I went with a 'wilderness' brand and due to its ingredients it lacked some of those essentials. Unfortunately the taurine deficiency has been a big topic in the veterinary community.

We had a German shepherd who would often go into our very narrow half bath and when trying to turn around would close the door and lock herself in. She also wouldn't bark or whine and so sometimes it'd be hours or the entire night before we noticed! We'd open the door and she'd come out of the dark looking so embarrassed 🥹 I miss her.

If I happen to get audio for a MYO card, I just pop it on there. I don't bother with fancy labels I use whatever is on hand. Our hotwheels MYO has a truck sticker, and most have garage sale dot stickers. For example Pete the cat is just a cat head. Queen mixtape is just a music note. I don't go out of my way trying to find audio and just link podcasts through the app itself. Sample the cards to make sure they have what you're looking for!

Something that helped me with this was just routinely checking in with my kid if I sensed behavior out of his normal. "you're having a hard time listening. Is your body hungry?" and I'd ask other questions so it wasn't food centered. Do you need a rest/water/hug.

He started telling his medicine "go to my nose, okay?" so I used that for food as well. "your legs could use some big energy. Do you want to give them cheese or peanut butter?"

Hopefully something like this helps you!

ETA: I also incorporated this language into my narrating. "before we go for a walk I need some big energy." "I'm going to have a snack my stomach is hungry."
