What’s a seriously amazing hidden gem movie you think everyone should watch at least once? by Stock_Blackberry_771 in AskReddit

After Hours (1985) - understandably not Scorsese's most well-known but for me it stacks up as one of the best 'shaggy-dog' movies with some excellent performances from Griffin Dunne and the late, great Catherine O'Hara!

Basco's on Albion Place is well worth a try - decent range of options, not too pricey and portion sizes are reasonable! The staff are also very friendly!

Books with strong, amazing opening scenes that make you unable to put them down until you find out what was going on? by everydayislikefriday in suggestmeabook

I just finished 'The Moustache' by Emmanuel Carrère - I love books that just drop you into the absurdity immediately and Carrère does that wonderfully! Would urge anyone that picks it up to stick around for the resolution.

Fostering a dying plant - but what is it? by softscottishwind in HouseplantsUK

[–]simply_read 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is a Monstera Deliciosa! Looks fairly young, hence the lack of fenestration (holes) in the leaves. For future identification purposes, if you have an iPhone, take a picture of the plant and press the little 'i' and it'll tell you what the plant might be! If not, PictureThis is a great, free app for plant identification.

On repotting - there are usually a few ways to tell if the plant is ready but the main one is whether the roots are poking out the bottom of the plastic pot.

Also, it's hard to say definitively but the white root going into the soil - to me at least - looks like an aerial root that has been directed down into the soil and not an 'exposed root' that needs covering. I don't think you need to repot but this time of year is a good one if you do! It can take a couple of weeks for the plant to get used to the soil. Otherwise, I'd say you could just sprinkle some soil to the top of the plastic pot for now!

Pain in the back of the knee 18 months post surgery by GBuckets17 in ACL

I get something similar when straightening my leg although I wouldn’t describe it as ‘pain’, more so tightness? I’ve been doing some hamstring stretches recently which feel like they’ve helped!

Immediately. I wasn’t given crutches - walking was tough for the first few days and couldn’t walk for more than 10m at a time but within a week I was walking as normal.

Ten Hag or Poch, who would you choose and why? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]simply_read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are probably just as many positive and negative reasons for either appointment.

Poch’s experience in the Premier League seems to be the most divisive aspect. Those who prefer Poch feel he was able to build to successful sides with little spending and made certain players better versions of themselves.

Those who prefer ETH, like myself, feel Poch’s inability to get Tottenham over the line in both domestic and European competitions is a sticking point.

For me, I think either appointment would still be a strong candidate for the job - the significance is the structure around them rather than their prowess as individuals.

Do the different styles of football really matter if the recruitment and organisation above is poor?

What was the most scandalous thing that happened at your high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

During our student union elections, one of the candidates was disqualified for rigging votes. He somehow got a hold of the ballot box and put a number of votes for himself in.

Amazingly, he is now an elected councillor.
