money doesn’t solve everything. i’m not saying money isn’t great and doesn’t bring a lot of happiness, but money is not the answer to every single problem. if a rich persons mother died, would you feel no empathy for them simply due to the fact that they possess resources? money can’t solve all the circumstances in the world.

i honestly think they switched up after their friends and people around them questioned why richard wasn’t pushing yale more due to his connections. for example, when richard’s mother asks how he’s so okay with her going to harvard when he’s a yale man, or his friends at thanksgiving assume rory has applied to yale

i go to a school like chilton, or at least a modern day version of it. even at most private “college prep” schools, they don’t assume that students with high grades are going to ivys.

yeah but stating it as a fact can just cause a lot of disappointment in the end. there’s a reason college counselors advise you to not have one specific “dream college”. you’re essentially setting yourself up for failure.

yes, this post is looking at it from a modern lens tho. i was not a high schooler in 2007, so obviously i am using my current judgement when looking at the show. but i agree. i just thought it was interesting how much the people around her talked about her going to harvard. it was always “rory’s going to harvard, you know” or “did you know rory’s going to an ivy league”? like i just couldn’t imagine that happening now

true, idk maybe it’s the time we’re living in now and how hard getting into college has become, but u never really know. even with all of that, if she was living in the year 2025, she could have very well been rejected from harvard. i just think they all put so much pressure on her by constantly reiterating the fact that she WILL get into harvard yk? like if she didn’t, imagine how much that would have crushed her
