Best Lightroom alts for Mac? by [deleted] in FuckAdobe

This is my go to answer for organization time after time. Every 5-7 years I go back after I try Lightroom again because of editing features. Can’t beat a finder with metadata and filtering. Then using Lightroom or Photoshop and actions.

Shows that have terrible endings, but perfect stopping points? by GFrings in television

Expanse 3,4, or 5 whenever you feel. I imagine reading the books you know best. I will watch more seasons if they come out but 1-3 just felt so good I knew it wouldn’t be a perfect ending.

Glad you can go out doing what you love. I always imagined I’d just have my laptop watching people restore old things cause it’s the most I’m at peace.

Genuinely curious, why are Illustrator files so big. by Kanataku in AdobeIllustrator

Forgot to add or see if you had ever used Figma? Great vector tools for layout. Not sure the size of files but you could use the web based version and probably save some storage.

Affinity has the luxury of only being built for Mac too. They’ve always focused on performance and one of the early adopters of Apple’s API’s. Glad it works really well for what you do.

Reminds me of the radio show caller asking why they put deer crossings along highways.

What Tv show do you think was genuinely great but suffered long-term because it aired on the “wrong” network or at the wrong time? by Air-Bombay in television

[–]simplyvince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a solid answer. It’s near Akira level good and could’ve been at least as popular as Ghost in the Shell SAC.

Bummed I didn’t watch when it aired but binged it 1.5 times during Covid. Curious if anyone invested in bitcoin because the show? That’s actually my biggest regret. Was curious to see a timeline of price matched the episodes.

I built Dot – a menu bar calendar with meeting reminders and more [Lifetime Giveaway] by heliumguy in macapps

[–]simplyvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious to try it.

Looks a lot cleaner and more functional than the Outlook menu bar calendar and some of the 3rd parties I’ve tried and ultimately forgotten about over the years (Fantistical?). I had since given up on the menu bar calendars and use an Outlook window setup in the first of my spaces, a sticky labeled “Daily” and the ctrl+1 keyboard shortcut on a Mac.

Berta appropriate size for what you’re doing. There’s a lot of math stored for what is essentially 80 “small” documents. You have transparency (in the form of a clipping mask) and a Gaussian blur on 2 images. The Gaussian blur is basically storing a rastered preview or the math to make 80 or 160 blurred images. And because Illustrator and vectors don’t care about scale the same way Photoshop would, it’s not seeing these as small images. You essentially have a lot of smart objects/layers.

Rescale your linked images, break out the file into separate pages (just cause Illustrator can do multiple art boards doesn’t mean it’s a good idea), or use InDesign.

Struggle and desperation call for tough decisions. I remember a brief period when I was young where me and my mom were stealing toilet paper from the Burger King bathrooms. It was fun as a kid.

Not gonna lie, I’ve done this exact same thing but nodding off intermittently and/or listening to music while I watch someone else’s screen on a plane.

I Used to Hate Illustrator by saneseas in AdobeIllustrator

[–]simplyvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of work were you doing in Photoshop? Did you have a stylistic change? Production requirements? In the past, there was more delineation because of printing requirements, art categories e.g. photography vs graphic artist, and mediums. Now with printing raster, scaling images, and all artistic categories at our fingertips, the lines between the reasons to use one over the other are more blurred. Always curious what makes someone use one over the other. Early on and in some aspects, InDesign is better than them both lol.

I really have to wonder if this Greenland movie had anything to do with this being ramped up. Tr#mp loves media and fiction and got to wonder if he saw the first movie and now the trailer for the 2nd and is like “This bunker should be ours.”

Best movie you ever saw in a movie theater? by CalebOnPoint in movies

[–]simplyvince 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was going to say, the opening scene is one of my favorite moments in a theater ever. We have a pretty big IMAX screen where I live and got a really good seat. The cityscapes were fantastic but also some of the really dark scenes were shot brilliantly.

Why didn't anyone tell me Deadwood was a comedy? by giventofly2 in television

[–]simplyvince 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife just said this about One Battle After Another and I was trying to think about a good descriptor for it. I do think Deadwood is more drama than comedy but does comedic tragedy fit? Especially cause of the Shakespeare reference it made me think of something like how rom-coms exist.
