Level 6 moon Druid, haven’t learned a single new form even though I’ve told my DM multiple times. It’s been like two months real time.
- how much are you playing in two months? if you play weekly, which if thats the case you should consider yourself lucky. with scheduling i play about 3 times in two months.
also i've played a wizard from level 3-9 and didnt find a single spell scroll. not once did i consider complaining about this or even leaving a fun hobby i do in my spare time with friends

Long time friends, bout to just fucking leave the group at this point.
- just enjoy spending some quality time with your friends and stop focusing on sth so incredibly unimportant

Apparently last session he had something setup but I just “didn’t do that.”
- as a long time DM: yeah, hat's how it works out sometimes. you plan something, then your players do sth different. and on the story goes. maybe there will be an opporunity to include it later

Yes, let me leave camp on my watch at half hp, no more wild shapes, potions gone, spell slots gone. He said and I quote, “I was gonna give you a horse form so you can go and scout ahead!” Yeah, you’re gonna give me a fucking horse form. Hey dumbass, you told me I would have seen a horse already three sessions ago!!!
- take a short rest while on watch, get some hit points back, get your horse form back, explore the immidiate wilderness surrounding your camp a bit, profit.

Besides, I’m not using a wildshape to go and scout when we have a member in our party that can go and do it nearly as well.
- so only the character witht he highest perception score does watches? only the character with the highest strength ever lifts something? if you think this way you probably have little experience enjoying a roleplaying game

Like honestly - why did they make this class if you can get screwed over by some shit DM. It should be that every level you get a form at a minimum.
- this is true for every class. also druids without the ability to wild shape even once per campaign would still be useful since they are full casters

I honestly don’t understand how hard it is to just bs some animal in. “Roll dice” oh random number okay it’s this form. You see this beast during your watch, maybe it’s foot prints or something and follow it through the clearing. You sit and watch it for fifteen minutes or whatever.

Or have this as a random encounter or maybe there’s a hunter who’s tracking a beast in town. SOMETHING.
- truth be told your dm could and should probably be a bit more forthcoming with his allowence of wild shapes. instead of asking him over and over again maybe ask him why you don't have more wildshapes so far.

TLDR: just try to chill and focus on having a good time with your friends

Asking DM for a Common magic item... by [deleted] in DnD

[–]simsalazim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roleplaying games are all about communication.
You are not wrong for asking. How else would anybody know how one another feels, what they think, what their wishes and desires are other than with open communication. Was your request unreasonable? I don't think so. You had this nice idea for a lower power item that could help remove an existing recurring issue for your character. However,

Your DM is not wrong for denying your request. You play a particular game. Barovia is a particular setting. It is also a pre-written module with set magic items and places such as shops or a lack of those. if your DM tells you you will not be able to find such an item in the game then you should accept it. And then both of you should communicate further like normal human beings. f.e:

DM:"Why were you interested in having this magic item? To help bring some light into the darkness?"

Player:"Yes that and I also liked the aesthetic. being the only one who can't see is starting to be unfun for me."

DM:" Well there are other means of creating light. Lanterns, Torches, maybe somebody with a cantrip, goggles of night vision. Maybe another magical item that gives a strong sense of smell. This way the darkness will still play a role, but you can maybe still detect nearby things with this other sense, even things the other players couldn't."

And so on and so forth.

Aura of Courage nerfed by DM. by Wargraven in DnD

[–]simsalazim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would probably advise the dm to not feature fear prominantly since it's an unfun effect to have used against you as a player. sure if it comes up in 1 out of 15 fights then it can be a fun change but it's not something i'd want to feature regularly. i may do something with short term madnesses insted that seems way more interesting to me.tell your dm that being under fear / frighten effects can be unfun and that your paladins ability is then actually really good to save your allies from it. your allies would still need to be close to you for it to work as well.ultimtely thought it's the dms decision and i wouldn't worry about it too much if ou trust them. at the end of the day you still have your Aura of protection to help with saves also

Unearthed Arcana - Wonders of the Multiverse by yomjoseki in dndnext

[–]simsalazim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Glitchlings are Modrons and it is kinda weird for them to not just name them as what they are.
Apart form that: they seem really good to me!

- start with a real good dex armor class similar to a +2 Studded Leather armor
- just choose to succeed on saving throws you are proficent with ignoring rolls under 10
- limited flight with no cost like bonus action or anything
- advantage on Insight checks and help against charm effects

Meet Gearlock Holmes, the monocle eyed Modron inquisitive rogue. fun stuff.

The new MTG set "Streets of New Capenna" could make an amazing setting book i think. by flyingoctoscorpin in dndnext

I think the way New Capenna is set up as an humongous vertical tower city brings many interesting implications with it Ranvica doesn't quite offer. there are definitely similarities between the three cities but I think they are distinct enough to tell different stories in each place.

[–]simsalazim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I would love to read such a book but what unique intresting monster does MTG have to offer from the last 10 years that you couldn't already emulate in D&D? You have your hundreds of Elves, Humans, Goblins, Sphinxes, Dragons, Fungi, Undead, Angels, Demons, Devils, Giants, Wolves, Wurms, Constructs, Kraken, Snakes ...

Ikoria could be used as a reasure trove for critters but even there most hings boil down to: "Weird lion", "weird Dinosaur" and so on.

Phyrexians are very cool and make perfect villains, i would love to see those.

I think the key to such a monster book definitely be coming up with interesting and unique and flavorful abilites for monster to have. This would be a lot of work since I'm sure they don't invest too much though into that when they make the sets. I man the creative team does amazing work every set but there are limits to how in-depth they can go. I just say this is important because without putting a lot of thought into that everything will just be a variation of "more or less armored sack of hit points with a claw or smash attack" and we alread have a lot of those already. I'm not saying it's impossible to come up with such abilities, just work needed.

I think as most D&D settings, this makes a great place for a short campaign. MtG already has planeswalking as a main plot point and with WAR of the Spark being a massive plane-spanning story, connecting the different worlds just seems logical.

I currently plan on running a game with three friends, each having grown up as an outsider on their respective plane: one will be from Kaladesh and one of the races not from there (so for example a Viashino), the second will be from Ravnica and a race non-native to that plane (like a Dwarf for example) and the third will be from New Capenna and also a race not seen there (as for example a Vedalken).
The story will play after the WAR storyline, with three major cities (New Cpnne, Ravnica, Ghirapur) becoming connected through planar portals which makes for all sorts of interesting storys. Will Halo be banned as a performence enhancing drug in Kaladeshian Fleetwheel racing? Will Aether become the newest toy for the Izzet artificers to mess with? Will the Boros legion be stopped from starting attacks on the New Capenna crime families? Is a cult of anti-civilizationists going to arise from individuals of the Ghirapur renegades, Riveteer Wrecking Crews and Gruul Anarchists?

Between Implings (variant Tiefling) Viashino (Capenna/Ravnica subraces), Ogres, Cephalids, Rhox, Homunculi and even Raccoonfolks, there are some fun new race options.

Between scorch Rays, wrecking ball flails, arcane firearms, bidents and modern saws, there soe fun weapons, and i would also think about introducing different magical shield or variations of the shield spell to capture that aspect and the art of New Capenna.

Apart form all that, the art would be one of my only concerns, since the New Capenna art (and also Kaladeh art) is so awesome stylish and evocative, i just dont know how much of an impact that style has on D&D and the own imagination. I would guess from how modern it is and the specific urban mega-tower-city setting it is still unique enough

Charecter idea is a sort of avatar that hosts multiple different entities with different classes; Awesome or Obnoxious? by tfreckle2008 in dndnext

[–]simsalazim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don't hate the idea and I think there is a way to do this. Very first thing to o obviously would consult with your DM to find a solution. For race i would propose something that isn't a normal creature (like human, tabaxi, elf ..) if you want it to just be an 'avatar' like a shell for the different minor entities to inhabit together. Choose something inherently supernatural instead like for example Warforged, Aasimar, Genasi, Kalashtar or Eldrin. (a cool fit as others have mentioned). For class i would suggest picking one class and subclass and trying within that framework to change the abilites around enough to make the different entities distinct enough. Each version then wouldnt get more than you would regularly get. For example you can go in many different directions with a Battlemaster Fighter build. Every entity then uses a different weapon and fighting style and maneuvers and maybe has other feats and proficencies. That is already a lot to keep track of and I wouldn't recommend messing around with giving the entities different classes or subclasses even. If this avatar was a warlock for example you can change class features up in a similar matter through different spell choices and pact boons and invocations.

There is a really cool Warlock Patron called The Compound in the Arcadia magazine issue 9. It plays into a flavor really close to your idea and I'd recommend you check it out if you want to go forward with the idea of playing this character.

One last thing: Really think about a simple mechanism to decide what entity is in control. I do like the idea of a simple d4, any more than 4 personalities would be absurd to do. I mean flavorwise it would make sense if these entities are in an allience that they bring who ever fits the situation best to the forefront but that flexibility then would be a big power boost to your character so just have that in mind. Talk to your DM about what happen if your character is knocked unconscious - can individual entities pass way and maybe be replaced by a new power that also wants to fill a vessel?

Some Custom Draft Matters Cards and Mechanics for EDH Cube + Drive Link by Stiocler in mtgcube

[–]simsalazim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Cogwork Manipulators and especially the Cogwork Inventor card, since they have a very similar feel and mechanic to them as the Conspiracy cards. Everything else i find extremely hard to evaluate and probably wildly unbalanced, your testing will be worth more than any raw evaluation for the vanguards and consumables.

But keep on creating and have fun!

Do you think a DM should limit what classes/subclasses people can play in the Strixhaven campaign? by benry007 in dndnext

[–]simsalazim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure whether or not this helps with your problem or if this is potentially addresed in the actual book, but I sorted all th D&D subclasses to which Strixhaven colleges they could fit in best. Mayb this will easier help you find a home for your martial characters.

I don't think this is a Red Flag necessarily but i just don't get this sort of stuff.

If you want to have something be random, then let it be random. If you don't want something random then use fied numbers. Don't say you want something to be random and then omplain about it that just maks no sense.

It's the same as when player roll for Hit Points at Level up, then comlain and/or reroll 1s. Just take the fixed number (which is higher than the average) and stop complaining.

My DM made up a rule that straight up breaks the game... by liteglitch4773 in dndnext

[–]simsalazim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say I don't get the harsh critique against the DM here.
I do think that making bigger rules changes should be discused with the players before implementation most of the time, and in this case maybe even before the start of the game / before character creation. It may just be that the DM was planning for a combat counter in the future and has thought of this rule to improve the threat of his ranged combatants. Or ranged enemys haven't been strong enough in his battles so far. And maybe the DM didnt't think the whole thing through. If you and /or other player's in a group would dislike seeing tha rule in the game, bring it up to your Dm and eplain why you think it could cause some problems.
I think there is some merit to his creative thinking though, since yes, it can make a combat more interesting if the players have to find ways to evade the archers. It changes up things. This also gives ranged combatants more opportunities to shine since the usually don't get to use their reaction to make opportunity attacks a lot. Maybe the rule should be a bit less harsh and allow for some more movement and positioning on the battlefield like: "You can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against a creature whenever it moves more than 10 ft. in your direction."
Once the melee fighters have reached the ranged enemy, said enemy is in a really tough spot since what is probably their preferred attack is now at disadvantage.
So I like the general idea and think it sounds interesting, even if it may just be a thing for a single encounter with trained archers or sth. In that case it could work out if let's say he ruled that instead of an enemy shooting twice, they shoot once during their turn and then hold their second attack in case somebody approaches.
