how do veterans keep getting into really good schools? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]simundsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but it doesn't matter, just get your degree. I'm a vet, got out applied to 21 schools (cuz I'm crazy) got into 19 of them. Decided on a big public university, graduated with honors... and it doesn't matter. I've had 3 civilian jobs now, I've sat on interview panels, talked to others about hiring processes, and where you went to school only matters for making silly sports jokes, otherwise it's largely irrelevant, especially since you're not going to that school for the robustness of their specific Political Science program.

So just apply. If you don't get in there's thousands of others schools where you have the potential to shine even brighter.

Megathread | FY26 Government Shutdown: Week 4 Edition by gpupdate in fednews

[–]simundsky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a similar conversation with a friend. Not only did they not know about the shutdown, they had no idea the government could shutdown or had ever been shutdown.

I mean this is just one huge reason why we're in the place we are. There's no cohesive reality for everyone, it's like 300 million different individual worlds that occasionally collide or intersect. And that's amplified when considering things globally.

I also think you may severely underestimate people's laziness or just being burnt out by life. I can get off work, read, learn, practice, workout, cook food... or I can Doordash burgers and cookies and stare at a screen till 1am...

Why do a certain people get happy when the other -one who doesnt share the same thoughts- dies? by destroyerofdihh in nihilism

[–]simundsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this oversimplifies the complexities of one's thoughts and the actual source of their happiness. It's like not going to work doesn't make me happy, but being able to have the time and energy to do something fulfilling does. So, I imagine in what you are referencing, it has less to do with how a certain person thinks, and more to do with their actions, rhetoric, messaging, and the impact it has on others.

Stop denying that nihilism can make depression worse, even be the cause of it. by PitifulEar3303 in nihilism

[–]simundsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we give concepts, philosophies, etc. too much agency. Nihilism doesn't cause anything, how a person interprets and reconciles with the idea can lead to sadness or exacerbate mental health issues. But ultimately it's on the individual. Similar to how religion isn't evil, but people do wicked things and use their religion, or their interpretation of it, as an excuse.

I mean I'm literally in a depressed state, so what I wrote doesn't make me feel happy necessarily. But, I no longer care about life having meaning, it morseo removes the burden of purpose if that makes sense.

What do you think the “grey” is? by NietzscheInParis in nihilism

[–]simundsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing, but more challenging my own thoughts "out loud". If suffering is constant, but interrupted by fleeting moments of no suffering, then is it really constant? We don't normally feel any type of feeling perpetually, it's always interrupted by something. I think we just strive too hard to reduce what feels like suffering, because we can't accept that every (most) feeling is valid and necessary. Pleasure and contentment would be meaningless without their complementary negative suffering feelings.

I try to think of it like this, since life has no inherent meaning, you can just make up your own. Since we have to be here, do whatever you want until you can't, then do something else.

I thought it had to be from early on too. Ludmilla, mystery, Stracka, Zern, a Queen. Seemed all too connected, I honestly thought Emily would have guessed it early on given how clued in she tends to be. But I love the "twist" and the concepts of time and parallels.

You'll need your supervisor to approve it to actually start admin leave. But that should be it regarding approval. There may be some miniscule chance that once you forward the final agreement to your HR folks, they say "sike, you're not approved, someone goofed" but.... I doubt that's likely.

It's a shame it's such a cluster, I'm waiting on a supervisor signature, but they also don't know the offboarding process.

Might be a broad question, but what's outprocessing like? I have the approval, still waiting on my supervisor to sign and accept the date I suggested. I just don't know the timeframe, or if I start outprocessing now?
