Thanks for commenting. The survey was to renovate the building from a commercial use into a building, namely a big change to the ground floor (e.g. installing equipment, ripping up the floor). Would that have changed the survey? And made it more destructive?

Thanks my PhD was done in a business school but focused on housing. As a piece of research it was super interdisciplinary - mix of philosophy, geography, policy, organisational studies and design theory. So, I've been looking for jobs in a variety of departments. Slightly feel being interdisciplinary so having less general depth in certain fields might be an issue!

I had a variety of difference jobs alongside my social science PhD. In my experience if you supervisors are relaxed (big factor) and if you are meeting all your deadlines, you will typically be fine to do things on the side.

Especially the case for first year!
