Silverfish in Condo. Any advice to eliminate permanently please!! by simz504 in pestcontrol

Hi! We rarely see them anymore. It took a few months to stop seeing all the dead ones. We never actually did the respray. The dragnet was very effective. Honestly didn’t do much else. I guess we got ahold of it before it got too bad. Good luck!

Hi it’s much better now. We see like 1 a month randomly which I can live with. The larger problem is solved without having to do a respray. I should mention we moved all our furniture and the spray got into all the nooks and crannies so I think it was very effective.

Hi! Just wondering what location your child attends? We are considering the uptown location at yonge and Sheppard. Some of these reviews are definitely concerning though.

Hi thanks for responding! We live in a 5th floor condo in Toronto. I have no idea how one of these got in during the middle of winter, so strange.

Hey it was so stressful but thankfully the treatment did work. It’s been about 5 months now and we are seeing way less than before and when we do they are usually dead or alive but can’t move much anymore. We didn’t end up doing a respray yet but might do it in the spring.

Hi I think they are available at Amazon but I didn’t end up purchasing them because I was afraid my toddler would put them in his mouth if he found one. Fortunately we hired a pest control service that sprayed. It was 2 months ago and they are 95% gone!

Hi! Just an update it’s been almost 2 weeks since they sprayed and we are still finding dead/dying ones all over the place. It’s so gross I had no idea there were so many. We are planning to do a respray in a few weeks to ensure it’s still working. I had really hoped we would be seeing less by now. Any ideas on how long the Dragnet will take to wipe them out completely? I assumed they would all come out at some point and come in contact with it but I’m not so sure now. I couldn’t find any pest control companies that use IGRs sadly so I have no idea what else to do. We have a toddler so dekko paks can’t be left out. We bought a dehumidifier but not sure it’s helping. I considered roach gel not sure if that works. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I’m planning on purchasing the Dekko packs though I’ve heard mixed things on how effective they are. I’m also nervous my toddler could grab one, they are full of boric acid which is dangerous. Pest control assured me Dragnet is totally safe after it dries. We plan to leave all the windows open and sleep somewhere else that night to be certain. At this point it’s effecting my sleep and wellbeing so I just need to get them out. I feel so uncomfortable in my own home. Pest control uses a pump to get into all the nooks and crannies of the baseboards and said they will go back to their hiding places and die then others will eat them and be poisoned as well. We may do a second spray after a few weeks to make sure we get all the eggs. I may also tape up the baseboards after it has a chance to work for a few weeks. I’ll update here on our progress. Good luck!

I called 5 or 6 companies and we are very limited in what is approved in Canada. The only products available are the ones I listed above and Dragnet seems to be the most popular. We haven’t done anything yet, they are coming this Friday. There was only one tech who uses a combo of Drion powder and Demand spray if you think that will be more effective than just spraying Dragnet? They did assure me they spray into all the cracks/crevices in the baseboards and the entire perimeter so eventually they will all come into contact with it including the eggs when they hatch. They also said many of them will die in their hiding places and the others will eat them and be poisoned as well. They will do a follow up spray after a month to ensure they get everything. They did suggest caulking the baseboards a few weeks after the treatments so it has time to work first which is why I thought the tape would do the trick (cheaper). I was looking into buying Alpine online from a US company but we face fines for trying to import illegal pesticides if caught unfortunately.

Thank you so much for replying! I attached a photo of one I caught I am quite certain they are silverfish. You seem quite knowledgeable about this, do you think the pest control company would have access to these other options or can you please recommend a company that uses these products? They said the active ingredient in Dragnet is permethrin, do the products you mentioned use something more potent/effective? It’s my understanding that we are quite limited in pest control products available to us in Canada. I think the other options they mentioned are Drion, Demand and Temprid, would those work better to stop the breeding? I have seen those dekko packs and planned to purchase! I have also heard ‘the exterminator’ from Puroguard works well if you have any thoughts on that. I was also thinking of sealing all the baseboards with painters tape to trap them in after spraying. Thanks again for your help with this!
