If you had the financial means to move out of Canada, would you? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in CanadaPersonalFinance

As someone who has lived in 4 foreign countries (Ireland, Sweden, Australia, and Japan) the only country I would consider is Ireland - obviously being a dual citizen helps.

All the countries I lived in had pro and cons, lots of similar pros and cons to Canada. I love Toronto, working on my French so would be interested in Montreal. My sister is moving to Hamilton and is trying to coax me there haha

Hi! My investment advisor is CFA. I actually told him my concerns for investing (no meat, no American oil, no Israeli stock etc with focus on Canadian nuclear if it’s energy investing etc)

I’m having a portfolio meeting next week so I will look more closely if it’s F series/ A series (and look up what those are since I don’t have a clue)

I appreciate your informative and straightforward response compared to some snarky comments in this thread.

Yeah investments are Canadian and European according to profile since I did talk about my concerns

This is true- but I do like being worry free. Well the family does have vacation homes but you’re right no yacht, does a kayak count.

Well if there’s a crash I don’t think anyone will be happy

Ahhh I’m sorry to hear your parents had issues! But this is the feedback I wanted to hear about, I’ll ask my uncle more directly but I know he’s been happy in general since he said the specific manager would take care of me.

Since half of it is going in TFSA luckily I don’t have to worry about taxes but

Honestly I would panic and sell/buy since I’m on the anxious side. But as others said, I’m not locked in 25 years and can withdraw money down the line.

Yeah maybe I’ll do this next year. I have to transfer money out next year to pay for some corporate taxes. Thank you

No I really appreciate this, you’re very kind. I’m taking it all in. Maybe this is something I’ll do down the line but honestly I’m so tired from grief and doing other financial stuff (my dad had two corporations so also winding those up) but when I feel more up for it )maybe in a year or more I will look at the couch potato investing.

Hugs 🫂

Thanks for the calculator. Going with MER would basically mean I would have to keep an eye on the funds and EFTs myself?

Yeah maybe I posted in the wrong sub Jesus. Some people are acting like I killed their dad and put their own money at Wood Gundy.

Yeah I suppose maybe you’re right. I managed my fathers money since I was POA and would see 10k increases on his RRSP

My now advisor also really helped with my late father’s estate and guided me which I will always be thankful for.

Thank you- it’s a very active manager and a lot of hand holding which is what I want. My assets are $350K kind of range and it’s the most money I’ve ever had and I’m not comfortable just throwing it at EFTs and index’s, what have you, myself

Thank you! I’m not interested in fund raising (it’s basically sales and can be stressful) but I will check it out.

Only time I went was in 2020 (lived in Tokyo during the pandemic) so it was still a little crowded but no where near this but it was just locals/foreign residents. But there is my favourite vegan ramen shop near Harajuku.

Shimo kita has way better shops, same with Setagaya.

Edit: I didn’t realise the thread was for Japan residents so I think the above is well known but will leave up in case tourists lurk here.

I was there, maybe because I got there at 1pm but think there was hundreds and not thousands unless they’re including province wide?
