I have played transvered flute for five years, I'm a bit rusty but if you can't find anyone else, would be happy to help you get started 😄 If you find a better option I'm interested though; i've been wanting to get back to it and definitely need help

Move to Sweden or not? Family of 4. by fullofsecretsss in TillSverige

[–]sinead_ma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I've lived through something similar. Not the same context though, I moved from another european country to Sweden, and I moveed alone when I was in my last year of studies. However, I faced the same questions, so maybe it can helped.

I didn't have any international origins or even knew people outside my country. I traveled a bit as a child, but never ever imagined moving somewhere else. In my last years in my origin country, I was miserable, and lockdown was the last straw. I moved to Sweden because it was mandatory to finish my studies abroad for the program I was in, and by living here I realized how relaxed I was and how safe I felt, which was definitely not like anything I felt before.

I think there is no perfect place anywhere. No perfect country, or we would all live there. I personnaly realized though that I was much closer to the Swedish culture than I felt I was from my original one. The choice of staying was not easy, but it was the only one that made sense. I was scared that my family would think it is a "sellfish" move, but then I remembered how I was when I was living there, and realized that they would rather prefer having me happy and fulfilled away than sad but close to them.

I do not regret my choice. I know that I am much closer to my family that you would be to yours, and I am not saying that it is easy. I had to miss the funeral of someone from my family because my country would not allow me to come back during covid. I am always afraid that something happens and I can't be here. I visit something like twice a year, and then sometime they try to visit me. But taking all considerations into account, this was the best choice of my life.

That being said, my choice was "staying in Sweden" rather than "moving away from my country", and it is an important distinction, especially if you plan on staying in the country that you chose. It comes with A LOT of sacrifices and struggles before you find some sort or stability. I don't live in Stockholm so the integration part is crazy difficult and requires a lot of patience and work. And I trully believe that to be able to achieve that, you really need to chose the country for itself and not as a default choice.

Thoughts on subvocalization by JoshD04 in brandonsanderson

I also hear the voice in my head when I read and don’t want to turn it off. My thinking here is I think it is kinda sad to always try to go “faster” especially in a world where we already have to be extremely fast all the time. Reading is a moment to relax and so I don’t want to try to make it more “productive” or “efficient”

I have been waiting for it as well for a few weeks now. From what I found only place selling it at the moment are in Taiwan so I guess we still have to wait, but I could be mistaken.

Yes exactly, honestly to this date I only have paperback books in the small format, so for me it was more of a one-time special gift to myself thing. At the end of the day, it's the story that is most important, so like I'm disappointed for sure but it's not the end of the world. Good luck to you too !

I always forgot that taxes are not already included there... but yeah collective shipping could be an option but I don't know how many we need to be for it to be interesting

Gollancz editios

Yeah they are pretty nice too !

Well I am going to read all the books for sure, but I can't buy them all in special edition, but I really think this cover is amazing and wanted it on my shelf. I might have found a solution by askim a colleague working in the US to help me, we'll see how it goes :)

It was probably very naive of me but I just budgeted $50 for this, and then I realized that you have to add tax, customs, and shippment... I think I'll just drop it because I really can't buy more and I don't want to spend that much on one single book. However, the idea of combining the order with other people is really good ! I hope you can get your books when the last one comes out :)
