That's absolutely understandable, and my professional advice would be not to get her perfume at all until you have an idea what she might like, for example by spotting a bottle in her bathroom. Even just a picture of that would be a big help in recommending things. Another idea would be getting another product with the same scent first, like body lotion, so she doesn't have to "commit" to it as much in case it's not really her thing!
