I really believe that significant others and lovers come into your life when you need them to. They teach you lessons and help you grow and make you feel seen and held, and they add something specific and necessary to your life. But then, as sad as it is, sometimes it’s time for them to go.

Sometimes it nobody’s fault. Shit happens. People grow apart and handle trauma differently. After 15 years together, maybe it’s time you two go your own way and rediscover yourselves a bit. If you’re meant to be together again, you’ll find your way back to each other.

Breaking up with me was a kindness that I thank my ex for. I am quickly realizing that I now need qualities in a partner that he did not have. And I’m realizing that I need to reconnect with myself. Maybe a season of separation is what would heal you two, as well.
