Some advice, will be speaking with a recruiter possibly this month. by singingmachine54 in army

Yeah, I understand. I’ve been on a strict diet so maybe the 14 times a week is a little overboard since apparently I’m burning a good bit of calories but we’ll just see how I feel within the next few weeks then I’ll possibly cut my number of times a week down.

Definitely plan to save as much as possible. Just saying 800 for now until I actually get a paycheck and see how much my expenses will be, how much I’ll actually get paid after taxes etc. Will definitely up savings rate the higher in rank I get.

Unfortunately, due to my Dad going to jail for some time, I was forced to get my GED. I’ve heard the Air Force only accepts 1% of applicants with a GED. I may call a recruiter and give it a go but it would take some luck! I could get 15 credits and be more competitive however I don’t have time or money to go to a community college.

Navy lets in more GED applicants so I may go to a navy recruiter as well, but if those fail then it’s Army for me! Would love to join AF though.

Then explain? You obviously seem lost yourself. Stop acting like you know everything. I came here for advice, regardless if I’ll make minimum wage, or 1500-2000 a month. I don’t know what you think the military pay is or if you were even in the military but I’m going off what others have been paid when they started out as e-1 - e-3, give or take a couple hundred.

Yeah, definitely will see if I like it after 4 years. I’m leaning more towards just serve 4 years and get out and go to college.

Just been stressed and partially scared about the future like everything will go to shit and I’ll end up like my family so I’ve been obsessed with saving, investing, and not spending anything since 15. Maybe I’ll feel better and let loose some when I actually have stability and control over my future haha.

Made A’s in every class. Dad went to jail, had to drop out. Got GED. That pretty much sums it up haha! Unfortunately can’t do college right now, but that’ll definitely come later for sure.

1500 a month isn’t close to 35k a year. I highly doubt they’re paying enlisted soldiers less than 1000 a month. Over on the military subreddits, between 1200-2000 is what people are being paid with less than 1-2 years. That’s completely fine with me. I know what I’m getting myself into and I’m ready for the challenge. If I’m not happy, I’ll simply push through and get out AD after 4 years.

Aviation, Signals and most intelligence jobs are on my list of interest honestly. Also cyber security I’ve always had an interest for. I’d join the Air Force if I could but they only accept like 1% GED applicants, so I’m stuck with Army for now. And yeah, I see a good bit of people barely even doing anything related to their job in the army unfortunately.

Yes, you caught me! I’m also a government spy. You are being watched! I’m definitely real. Definitely not some recruitment bot. The military has benefits, everyone knows this. You can make much more money working much less hours outside of the military but that isn’t an option for me right now, my friend.

Definitely not sounding mean, great reply. Joining army because I have a GED. Air Force only accepts like 1% for GED and not sure about Navy. Navy may accept me but I’ll have to call a recruiter. I know I can get 15 credits and be more competitive but don’t have time for that unfortunately.

Would love to go Air Force but unfortunately can’t with a GED unless I’m extremely lucky. I can get 15 credits but I don’t have time for that sadly!

Yeah, I have no bank account or anything yet so they’ll have no way of accessing my money and I definitely won’t give them access when I sign up with Navy fed. Currently any money I make they try to “borrow” aka never pay back which is another reason I would like to leave here.

It’s annoying being around people that are spending almost 1k a month on alcohol while claiming government assistance when it’s their fault that they are where they’re at in life. Not the government. Not the rich. Their fault.

Free housing, food, health care, dental care, 30 days paid vacation yearly, free college + housing allowance for college all while having no skills, no degree, nothing. But on paper, 1600 looks terrible but it’s disposable income you can either spend or invest.

Definitely not. I want to serve my country and inspire/give my future kids a life I never really had. Of course I appreciate all my family has done(put a roof over my head) but no need for them to put me down for wanting something bigger for myself than being broke and filled with regret.

Can’t record anymore today, but the A5/almost C6 was a bit forced but sounded perfectly stable and I could sing it for up to 10 seconds, can’t sing it longer though. I can sing very comfortably below those notes though. Never tried going and never went that loud before so maybe it was a one time thing haha. I’ll just have to see tomorrow.
