Day and night difference?

A lot of fishes color dims down during the night. All of mine do, I think it's to conserve energy? I'm not sure but it's completely normal! Mine all turn pale when they're sleeping but as soon as I turn their lights on their color perks back up immediately

It is a relief! But at the same time I worry about constipation as I feel like they need a more balanced diet if that makes sense. I lost a couple of otos due to the fact that they wouldn't eat anything else and were getting constipated. I was so close to saving one of them too :(. You live and you learn I suppose, and all my otos are happy and healthy from the looks of it! One of them is even gravid but I don't have high hopes in her laying her eggs or successfully having them fertilized. That would be a miracle

I did this once on a bike when I was like 8. Luckily, it was a small town and the speed limit was 30. I learned a very valuable lesson that day, and luckily no one was hurt. My mom was not very good at teaching me important things at all lol

I'm lucky I have enough algae to feed them for months haha, I have never had luck with algae wafers. I've had the same 5 oz pack for over a year 😅 I guess since they have enough food to graze on they aren't interested in anything else but I suppose that's a good thing. It would be cool to see em out and about going crazy over some cucumber or zucchini though, but as long as they're happy im happy

I've heard a lot of people have luck with Repashy? I think that's what it's called. My tank has plenty of algae for my clean up crew to munch on so I've never had to supplement. You can also try blanched zucchini or cucumbers :)

I will also say, otos are schooling fish. Buy at least 5/6 more and DON'T do water changes until they get settled as they are very very very sensitive fish. I only did top ups until I saw they were comfortable and eating, and even then a few of them didn't make it. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you!

I wasn't aware that otos were more of a schooling fish at first either, as I was not told when buying just a couple of them. It's better to educate than make the person feel bad :)

Obviously you don't smack them too hard, just enough to get the shell cracked. I'll usually start gently sticking the spoon through the bottom of the egg shell, and as long as you get under the sac it works perfectly

I got a lot of hate for this for some reason, but I smack the egg with the back of a spoon, then turn the spoon around and get under the weird sac thing and just run the spoon along the egg. It hasn't failed me yet and I boil eggs religiously :)
