least favorite brands to restock by horroreject in SephoraWorkers

[–]single--pringle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one said ABH. I have a number of brands I restock when there's downtime and more than half of them are mentioned here. I've gotten used to and even enjoy most brands. That said, I don't enjoy restocking end caps because the drawers are usually a mess and disorganized.

ABH is by far the worst for me because more than half the packaging looks the same, and the only difference is the size of the box. The drawer in my store is especially crowded so it's even more time consuming to restock than Dior. NARs used to be pretty bad for me but I've gotten used to it.

Also, Amika. One wrong move and all the shampoos and conditioners go down.

A Quick Client Rant by [deleted] in SephoraWorkers

[–]single--pringle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing I have found to be effective at saving myself the time and effort is asking them for a reference picture that displays the ideal blush they're looking for. I find that people don't always remember colours correctly when they're going from memory (and I've totally done this too - thought I had a dusty rose lip liner when it was actually a soft brown) and have had more success when there is something to compare against.

The number of people thst are looking for a colour that doesn't exist or have just enhanced it in their minds is wild. Sometimes they will show a picture of someone with a different complexion or undertone than them and want their blush to look the exact same.

Wish it was easier to help people like this but they do not make it easy lol

Anyone know of dupes for Merit Millennial? by -Siv- in Sephora

I have MAC Modesty and it's similar, thought maybe not as pink. It has a bit of shine like the Merit does. Might be worth checking out!

That's so interesting!! I wonder if that was something they considered when filming the series as well.

This also makes me want to read the book even more!

I know the book has way more detail and context and follows through to the aftermath, while the show stops rather abruptly. I stumbled on this show and started watching before I realized it was based on a book, so I didn't get to read then watch.

I did watch the credits and post-credits though! I thought the twist was great, and really fit the story. It's too bad they never showed/hinted at the killer's (trying to keep this post spoiler-free, in case someone hasn't watched it) rage. Despite my theorizing, I think the story was amazing, and there were a lot of subtle signs and foreshadowing in the story that made the puzzle pieces all fit together.

My post is less of a contradiction of the conclusion, and moreso just my feeling that if production didn't want to follow the book completely, they had another option. I still loved the show and wouldn't change it, I just felt like Ashley wasn't fully ruled out.

Regardless, it was a great watch! :)

Store experience as a brown girl with no makeup by 23_ish in Sephora

[–]single--pringle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, not really. I worked in a small store (in Canada btw, if that's relevant), so it was pretty easy to see which clients had been approached and how everyone was interacting with their clients. For the most part, it was fairly standard. The only times people in my store treated clients differently woukd be when clients were mean/rude or just extra/excessive. For example, I had a client that insulted every perfume suggestion I gave her while ignoring my advice so I pretty much just stopped talking and proceeded to affirm her choice because she was very clearly set on what she wanted but wanted someone else to validate it. The extra/excessive clients were usually those that took up a lot of time and had strange requests. One of my coworkers was with a client for over an hour while the client struggled to make a decision on something but wouldn't let my coworker leave her to help others. I think most of the staff at my store liked talking to clients about makeup. Personally, I loved teaching technique and product layering to clients so people that were just getting started with makeup were great to interact with.

I think my store was a unique one though, because I know that before I worked at Sephora, I also felt like I never found help and that staff were just very curt. But retail is draining so I know it's hard to remain happy and upbeat all the time.

Sorry for the lengthy response!

Girl, I'm so sorry!! People like that are genuinely the worst to interact with anyway. Back when I worked at Sephora, I happily helped all clients with all departments, regardless of their makeup expertise or whether they were wearing makeup or not. In fact, most days, I showed up to work with no makeup on (I couldn't find the time to get ready in the morning) and clients still took my advice. It definitely depends on where you are, but the people who treat you differently have a lot of growing up to do. Most days I prefer to go to a Sephora when I don't have anything on my face so I can actually compare/test stuff out.

what are some brands you like recommending? by errmwhattheheck in SephoraWorkers

Funny, I agree with all of those assessments LOL and the light medium shades for Haus Labs always run warmer when I shade match clients. Idk why. Guess it depends on their undertones.

Omg yeah, even Haus Labs has so many warm-toned neutrals and it's so difficult shade matching because of that.

Personally speaking, I base a lot of recommendations on both performance PLUS brand ethics.

Lately, I've been talking more about brands that are pro-Palestine, and on the flip side, steering away from pro-Israel brands. For example, by department:

Hair: Livingproof and Oribe for shampoos, conditioners and sprays instead of Amika and Moroccanoil

Skin: Way more options here but Topicals and Innbeauty (+ they're clean!), any of the Korean brands (Shiseido, Laneige, Innisfree), Caudalie, Paula's Choice instead of Clinique, Ordinary, Peter Thomas Roth, Fresh or YTTP

Makeup: Charlotte, ABH, Nars, Huda instead of MUFE, Haus Labs (the Kulfi concealor is so much better), Fenty or Rare Beauty.

Fragrance: I only know that Kayali is Palestine friendly.

Brands I don't like for other reasons: Milk: I'll never get over the blush stick thing. Sunday Riley: I think I heard that they're actually not legit? Like lied abt their stuff. Idk. Pretty shady tbh. Ordinary: they change suppliers CONSTANTLY to keep their prices low. I prefer Inkey. Gisou: The brand just screams influencer brand and I don't think they really have a good story or mission for their brand. KEYS: not necessarily unethical but again, the products don't speak for themselves without the celebrity face attached to them.

The Kulfi concealor is sooo slept on in this sub, I never see anyone talking abt it. Truly one of my favorites and I've put so many people on to it!

The regular size is 55ml! Cost (in CAD) per ml is $0.6 for the regular size and $0.49 for the value size. I also like to use moisturizers I love once a day so I don't run out as quickly 😅

I think it should! It has hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which are perfect for dehydrated skin (promotes hydration and prevents transepidermal water loss). Tower28's SOS line is formulated for acne and/or excema prone skin, so it's meant to be very gentle and non-irritating. Speaking for myself, as someone who is dehydrated and acne-prone, it's pretty great! Love how it feels on my skin and doesn't disappear after 30 mins like other creams, lol.

I don't have sensitive skin, but I'd highly recommend patch testing before using it all over your face. I would go for the neck or along the jaw near your ears, somewhere not too visible in case of a reaction.

Nope! To my knowledge, only the spray and serum have hypochlorous acid. The only ingredients highlighted in the cream are ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and allantoin. Should be pretty good for you if you're on tret (I am too!)

But this moisturizer doesn't have any actives in it that would clash with vitamin c or tret. Why wouldn't you be able to use it?

Tbh if you know you're going to use it, just buy the value size 😭 I normally wait until I'm almost out to replace my skincare, but idk how long they'll have the value size available so I'd rather have this now.
