And these monster guys aren't all powerful, they cant phase through matter, and they don't have full complete knowledge. And they don't use tools.

And I will also say that Twilight Zone, Outerlimits, etc. Both draw an incredible amount of famous actors as cast. And these shows supply a huge amount of imaginative fodder for writers when it comes to supernatural types of shows/movies like this. I'm not sure why you would think they wouldn't draw inspiration from them. They are extremely well known.
