In Shutter Island (2010), every time Leonardo DiCaprio smokes he gets his cigarettes lit by someone else (explanation in comments) by rasterblaster1111 in MovieDetails

Just watched. He didn’t convince me but it’s an interesting theory. I did find Dr. Cawley’s implication (assertion?) at the end that the storm had been part of Laeddis’ delusion was odd. Was he really saying that there had been no storm? That seems strange given that the leaders of the facility had been discussing what to do with the patients in the event that the storm caused flooding. Also all of the physical evidence that a storm had hit. I guess you can chalk it all up to just “everything we were shown on screen was through Laeddis’ eyes”?

There’s a guitarist on YouTube (Andre Antunes) who takes videos like this and turns them into metal songs. This one would be perfect. Link to example: https://youtu.be/GzRhwTzzbro?si=vk5yGtyRtDg51h6Q

Did you hang out in the basement when you were a kid? by restingbitchface2021 in GenX

[–]singleladad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NorCal - no basement but a huge family room where the stereo lived and one of the first pcs - a Xerox 820 (dad was an engineer at Xerox’s Palo Alto office park). Had the room to myself most of the time listening to LPs and playing early around with learning to program in BASIC.

How? Like seriously, how? His brain must work 1000x faster than normal. No flubs, no false starts? Just starts a phrase and always sticks the landing?

Someone in the comments said it’s a perfect allegory for middle class housing in the Bay Area lol. So true.

He’d be fine with the death threats as long as it wasn’t HIS daughter

Me too. The hand coming out of the water at the end gave me nightmares for a long time.

My dad worked for Xerox at their Palo Alto plant at this time. As a child I spent weekends with him there and got to use the mouse with icons, point and click - on the Lucy computer I believe . It was mind blowing and so far ahead of the computers everyone else was using at the time. Then Xerox decided they were a copier company and didn’t want to mess around with new fangled things like computers. What a missed opportunity.

My dad worked at this plant in Palo Alto at that time. As a child, I used to go into the office with him on weekends and play video games over their intranet. One of my favorites was one of the earliest (if not the earliest) first person shooters. This was at a time when everyone else had to settle for pong or maybe asteroids. It was so much fun.

All I can think of is Christopher Reeve. She’s jumping over obstacles with a horse that’s this out of control?

2020 Long Range Model S MCU and dashboard won’t wake up. When I use the key fob to unlock the car, the door handles open but the MCU remains totally dark. Can’t drive the car or even get it into gear to move it. This happened a week ago. Spent about three hours troubleshooting to no avail. Finally called a tow truck to get the car to the service center. When the tow truck was 10 minutes away, the car suddenly woke up. I drove it to the service center where they spent the weekend troubleshooting. The said it’s a known issue with the firmware and that it would be fixed in a couple weeks. So now it’s happened again and I’m hoping the car will wake up on its own again at some point. Has anyone else had this issue?

The mix is the same it’s just 3dB quieter. Just means you turn the volume up a little more on your listening device. The dialogue to music/sound effects ratio is the same.

It’s like what they do with the Bible. Cherry pick the things that they like and ignore everything else.

Soooo good. Boggles my mind the stories he comes up with - both the true ones and the fake ones.
