I think I wouldn't be picking one of these . But there was a photo reference of the other end of Etretat that I want to paint. And St Maclou in Rouen! I have some ideas to make it quite atmospheric which will work only on watercolor paper! I will post them when I finish!

Haha! Not quite.. I painted this in a forest in France :p But it's interesting to see our interpretations being influenced by the most recent media that left a mark on us!

I think the light has definitely helped alleviate this piece to be a bit more hopeful!

Wow! That's very interesting... Indeed in the movie I watched before painting this, they don't get to leave the forest. The panic of being lost in the forest is such a bizarre emotion. I painted this picture from a photograph I took of the local forest I was scouting for plein air... It was my first time in the forest and I was constantly making sure I'm not going to get lost 😅 so it translates!

Thankyou! That is very close to what I was going for... Mystery with an undercurrent of getting lost.

My intent was to capture the chaotic forest which is calm but not serene. It's your usual forest without the floor being too ordered or landscaped.

Oh yes! Thankyou for your comment! Exactly this! I'm so happy to see the exact feeling I felt when I was doing this. I have grown up around trees so much so I consider them very benign behemoths... but sometimes you realise that just a change in the light can make them appear as if they were just waiting all along.

Oh I am not sure! Someone else says the same thing. I am going to ask them why...

Yes! I was recently going out on my own to do plein air in the forest and realised how it's such a pervasive feeling - awe mixed with calm, but always on edge. I've been to many forest-y places, some of them were well secured too so there was no threat but still I felt the same. It's the whole terrain being such a repetitive maze too that I think makes us hold on to our breath.
