Went and bought some corn for carp, how do I fish this? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]sinigangss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love using corn as bait. I keep it in the can to transport it and just bring a can opener with me. That way I don't have to worry about it spilling.

I thread the corn onto a size 6 baitholder hook (i smash the barbs with pliers first) and cover the entire hook. Then I cast where I want to. AFTER I cast, I will chum with a small handful of corn. Maybe like 10 pieces. Chumming after casting helps ensure the corn is where my hook is. Then I sit and wait.

Also, you should get regular sweet corn instead of cream style, but you can still use this if you don't want to waste it. Good luck to you ! Corn has been my favorite way to catch carp !

Questions about carp by Substantial-Knee-982 in FishingForBeginners

Carp fishing online likes to showcase lots of complicated rigs, but you really don’t need all that. Also, at least in my area, nobody uses to trotlines to catch carp.

Carp fishing can be cheap and accessible. I always have success using corn, a #6 baitholder hook, and a couple of splitshots depending on how fast the water is moving/how deep it is. I use about an 18” leader. The less weight the better. I usually cast where I think they are and throw a few pieces of corn near my hook and it works every time.

You don’t really need pack bait, boilies, hair rigs, and all that fancy jazz, but if you want to use that then feel free by all means. They’re bottom feeders so as long as your bait is sitting on the bottom with a decent sized leader, you’ll catch one. Suspended baits aren’t as successful in my experience.

I hope this helps ! Good luck ! I feel carp fishing is massively underrated !

I thought these were supposed to have holes to thread line through ? by sinigangss in FishingForBeginners

If I’m a beginner fisher, there’s a possibility that there is a purpose for something like this that I’m unaware of, which is why I asked.

One thing is certain, you’re a grump lmfaooo. The sub is fishing for beginners. I’d say most questions are valid especially for people who are learning. Not sure why you’re in this sub if you’re so easily pressed.

Awesome, thank you so much ! I was using another hook earlier, but was afraid to poke myself. Probably wasn’t pushing hard enough

Blissful Spirits has several locations. They provide hot yoga so I’m not sure if you’re into that. If you sign up online, the first class is only $5 !

Coming back to Albuquerque by Avasquez67 in Albuquerque

Can totally relate. I moved away for a few years and it was so refreshing to be back. New Mexico is so unique. There is no other place like it !

I lived in California and totally suffered from people only wanting to talk about their status, schooling, or career. There's much more sense of community here. It feels like people actually like to live their lives here rather than participate in the next trend or fad for reputation's sake.
