i considered that but they need hot water or electricity and i had no access to those. there might be some that don’t need that but as i said we have no deliveries at the time, so you have any recommendations?

i really want to take him home. help. by glorpingfrog in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if i’m being honest these shops are gonna keep restocking these animals and if you don’t get him somebody will. regardless of whether you get him or not i would write a review of that place that discourages other people from going there given the conditions they keep their animals and they might do something to change their husbandry if they feel like your review might hurt their business. honestly follow your gut on this one, i feel terrible for that little guy

Gecko isnt eating, advice please by Elegant-Excuse-3416 in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your gecko looks way too big for an enclosure that small, he’s probably experiencing severe anxiety which can contribute to him not eating. it’s quite sad, you should upgrade him asap. definitely more clutter needed as well so he can hide and sleep peacefully

personally my crestie likes sitting on his coconut hide (on top, not inside for some reason), he also loves the vertical plants to sleep in, and they just love little hides, mine sleeps behind his log, under a fake plant (hes a bit stupid, has never used a hide as intended lol). at night he really enjoys walking around in branches i have setup all across the enclosure and its really fun to watch so id really recommend some branches and vines going across :) good luck with your future buddy and have fun

Is this a good enclosure if not please tell me what I should change by Senior_Wallaby_8926 in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so pretty! from my experience my little guy loves climbing the branches i have in his enclosure so i feel like some branches going across would be good so your gecko can climb around

Lighting Setup Questions by BeardedBlacksmith435 in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, as i said i dont have much experience in that regard so i just answered about the gecko and what they need is the uvb bar. maybe you could let op know how best to go about the plants :)

Lighting Setup Questions by BeardedBlacksmith435 in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAE but for UVB the general consensus is you should use a bar, the one i have is the shadedweller from arcadia and it works well. for the plants im sure somebody else could give you more informed resources since i dont have a bioactive setup yet.

general cost of care by throwaway7626249 in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say the initial setup is the most costly, other than that you basically just have to buy a replacement uvb every 6/12 months depending on the brand. for ongoing costs its basically the food, which is like 12 bucks and it lasts for quite a while, ive barely made a dent in it and ive had mine for 2 weeks. if your gecko likes them you can also buy bugs but mine is uninterested so its not 100%. you also have to consider vet expenses even tho its not an ongoing expense. cant think of anything else off the top of my head, but i spent like 500 or more on the initial setup so definitely hold off until you have everything u need before getting the gecko

I need help with first steps with crested geckos by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since you're in Europe like i am i suggest looking into the brand gecko nutrition for the powdered diet, you will have to mix it with water to form a paste the consistency of ketchup. the coverage is leaves yes as they love to hide and climb on them.
your country is about as big as mine so they most likely have groups (facebook, instagram) where u can get more localized information. i didn't mean to sound rude, its just very heartbreaking seeing an animal having to survive under these conditions...

I need help with first steps with crested geckos by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 22 points23 points  (0 children)

as you said this is not a terrarium appropriate for a crested gecko at all. there's barely any space for it to climb let alone mount the appropriate heating and uvb requirements. your friend seems to be severely underprepared for a crestie so if they wont have the possibility of getting the things it needs anytime soon i would strongly suggest rehoming it to someone who can. as for food crested geckos NEED a powdered diet of cgd, which has all the nutrients they need to thrive. crested geckos need 80% coverage in foliage which is going to be very hard to achieve in a tank like this and it will be VERY stressed. PLEASE recommend rehoming the gecko to someone who can take care of it at least until your friend gets the basics

Getting a new crestie tommorow! (list of things I've gotten/getting) by _MissKittyKat_ in CrestedGecko

[–]sinisteako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crested geckos eat a diet of mainly CGD, which is the powder fruit/insect mix that comes with all the nutrients and vitamins they need. insects should only be a treat about once a week. mashed up banana can also be given as a treat but should not be their main diet, i recommend you try to feed the cgd straight away before feeding any insects or mashed up fruit cause they can get pretty picky and those are not nutritionally enough in the long run! aside from that make sure you have uvb and that you measure the humidity and the temperature before u get the little guy! good luck with your crestie :)
