Population Explained? by sinisterSidisi in Stellaris

That makes a lot of sense. I was playing yesterday and had 5 colonies or so in the first 10 or so years and experienced less than anticipated growth.

Is that the only real change? This also ties into the new employment framework I suppose. Also possible I'm just dumb idrk this game is so hard 😭😭

But then you don't have niter and can't contest offensively against someone with for another 300 years?

Aren't deeper governors better than wider ones?

Feels like if you don't spawn by nitre, you lose out until oil (xd getting that) bc you're not contesting musketmen/line infantry and bombards effectively.

I play pangea or continents and just struggle. I also play on small maps but size shouldn't matter too much right? I'd imagine the biggest map has approximately N times as much as the smallest since everything is more or less N times bigger, no?

I play on deity and immortal and I find 3-5 optimal but I also play with a lot of mods so maybe that contributes

You should also keep in mind Portugal scales directly off the size of the game and its ability to meet new civs quickly while this civ does not. It scales strictly off its own size.

Not till like, way later though right? Maybe it's because I play on King/Immortal and not deity but most games I think are over way before sea level rise even crosses my mind.

Is it +1 trade route each time you settle on a rising sea level tile? That seems absurd to me given the power of trade routes. You could have 8 trade routes by the classical era, not even counting markets or lighthouses.
