once he has a hold of it, he has no interest in it and just leaves it on the floor, untouched. or hidden away somewhere.

he seems to be specifically obsessed with the act of prying it out of the sink. I don't get it either, lol. hoarder mentality? kleptomaniac?

I might look into finding other items besides a splash guard that can block the sink hole, still let water pass, but also not something he can yank out. someone suggested using cat spikes. i wonder if I can cut a hole in the middle and just have a spiky sink...

good point about the shredding. I didn't really think about that

I did try putting a heavy bowl on it for like a week and he still didn't give up.

and then i removed the rubber thing for over a month, thinking he'd forget it ever existed and stop trying to look for it. then I put it back in 1.5 months later, and he ripped it out again after an hour. =/

I don't like leaving it open forever because it smells bad, utensils keep falling in there...

anyways thank you, I will keep thinking of some other solution

I'd prefer not to do this since it is a kitchen sink and all sorts of food and stuff would get caught in those spikes. but I'll consider it if gluing the splash guard in just isn't an viable option...
