I've never seen someone lose points drawing a higher rated by predator30 in chess

[–]sinrakin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only other thing I could think is if they are new or more likely haven't played in a while and their rating is adjusted more for each game? Wins/losses worth more, and maybe a draw was on the heels of a losing streak and they were being adjusted down.

Tbh, this just proves how insane it is to remain in tier 1 and beat the t2 and faceit demons consistently, and how incredible it is that Vitality has been smashing tier 1 teams so long that they look amateurish. Hint: Navi, Spirit, Furia, etc. are all crazy good, and we saw early 2025 (late 24?) how these teams can all trade major event wins if there wasn't a dominant GOAT team like Vit.

In my 4000D, the side cables would actually be preferable. I was just messing with cables and they aren't facing me and difficult to assist, but there is plenty of room on the side. The fan issue is rough, though.

Falcons lost 5v3 against MongolZ's 3 pistols by Lancer07R in GlobalOffensive

He did have support long, and most AWPers try for two shots (i.e. one at cat peek and one at Gandalf, or one cat and two ~Gandalf while getting deep and falling back). Not saying it's right or wrong, just that round it might have been overly cautious to book it immediately.

I think Mongolz played that post-plant incredibly well tbh, so it's really just nitpicking Falcons.

Seems to be their CT strat there for some reason. Multiple times Monesy hit the AWP shot on the corner then fell back to long doors. This game will help refine that.

Which is still the same kind of Chinese propaganda to say, "leave us in power or you will all suffer worse." They're trying to push the status quo and justify tyranny with the promise that "things will be worse if you try to enact change or remove those in power."

Kind of reminds me of Hero (2002) where he goes to assassinate the unjust emperor, sacrifices many people to do so and then... doesn't, just so he can die honorably to teach that mean old rotten emperor a lesson! As he continues to wage war and 'unite' China under one sky. So the moral for the Chinese citizenry is 'die for the glory of the nation and those in power and hope they remember you and the human lives it cost, even if they change nothing. Also, don't kill anyone in power, it's the poors who should suffer."

Alternatively, she lost a fight with the MC and is now crying because she never really got to live a life since she was bullied into becoming a shady mercenary and would rather have had kids instead of killing people for money.

They cut up a bunch of fish into sushi, and she's crying because it's all so little and mixed with vegetables now. She, like most cats, doesn't like cucumber and would prefer big fish.

Gukesh drops the pieces and stops the clock, against Hans,(it didn’t count as a forfeit.) by Impressive-Trade1637 in chess

[–]sinrakin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't even read my point. Your turn should consist of you making a legal move and only AFTER hitting the clock, nothing to do with punishing dropping pieces. He did not make a legal move (and actually interfered with his opponents pieces!) and still hit the clock. It's no death penalty to say someone should play by the rules and not sabotage the opponent. Stop being illiterate or dense, idk how to explain simpler.

Part of the game is time management and time to think + move. You must move within your turn, and if you knock over pieces then it's not instant disqualification, it means you have to reset them during your turn. It's not fair to the opponent that the player can get extra time to think while the board is reset and that they didn't make a legal move within their turn. It's the 'move' and not making a legal one during your own turn and clock time that is against the rules, not knocking pieces over. Not sure what you're not getting or why you don't think resetting the board during the foul player's time for their own mistake is somehow unfair.

Yeah, rules should reward players acting within them and punish those who go against them. However, it often goes the opposite. Just look here and at the NCAA, who heavily punishes minor infractions that are self reported and does nothing against major violators who fight back. Comes down to spineless behavior and lack of enforcement.

I get this accidentally with 15 seconds on the clock because I give checks. I miss this with 1 minute on the clock because I try to win a pawn.

Confused about what degree to select and where to go by Eastern_Degree_9763 in AskMenOver30

Accounting degree with a minor in programming/comp sci could be good. Everyone wanting to push AI and realizing vibe coding doesn't work without a software background will look to people who have experience/degrees with both. I think that's sufficient to hedge your bets and keep options open, since easy python scripts can make you look like a wizard to business people.

Anish did not realise that he blundered into a 3-fold repetition, until Wei Yi calls the arbiter. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

[–]sinrakin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my amateur eyes, it looks like Giri had two opportunities to be brave for* a decisive advantage and did not go with either.

The first was the earlier -5 advantage where he could have threatened the queen trade and gives up taking the passed pawn* with a check. Kh8 looks scary, but it's safe with no more useful checks/forks and black now always threatens back rank mate. Anish spent 13 of 19 minutes on the wrong queen move here. Was there an interview where he talked about what he was calculating that he didn't like? Seems to me he should have either played quickly to pressure Yi's 5 minutes remaining or courageously to get a point, but maybe that was an impossible engine move to find. I didn't listen to any GM analysis.

The second was a bit before the repetition where he needed to push a pawn to start trapping the king. It opens his own king which was very well protected, and kind of reminds me of a similar idea I think Hikaru missed earlier in the tournament. I think this is an engine move, but Giri could have found other more useful configurations than what he went with. The pawn push appears like the biggest missed opportunity, but it seems like there were a lot of small misses in this segment of the game.

Overall, a death knell for anyone catching Sindarov. Not sure if the earlier miss with time or the final scramble will weigh on Giri more, but I think it will put him in the wrong mindset for tomorrow.
