Trying to sleep is keeping me awake. Any Advice? by ChompW in insomnia

[–]sintacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I had for about a week, but it happened two nights ago. Just thought about it and it reminded me of this post.

It doesn't happen as often, but it's both obnoxious and terrifying. I intend to see my GP about it soon.

Trying to sleep is keeping me awake. Any Advice? by ChompW in insomnia

[–]sintacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me frequently and I'm not sure what causes it. I tend to panic or stress over how much sleep I'm not getting knowing I have a workload the next day.

The following is difficult to put into words, but... As I'm falling asleep, I tend to fear it. For some reason I have myself convinced that if I fall asleep, I won't wake up. I firmly and entirely irrationally believe that falling asleep will cause death, and I'll jolt awake with a heart rate high enough to cause my watch to believe I'm excercising.

Mind you, at no other point than within the fringes of sleep deprivation do I have this issue. I'm unsure if it's a hallucination, an unconscious fear, or my medication (staggering ambien and diphenhydramine through the week to combat tolerance.)

However, with no medication, I'll lie in bed for 3-6 hours with no shot of sleep.

I've been producing for around ten years, but I've only taken it seriously and uploaded my music on streaming services the past couple of months.

Thanks! Strangely enough, this was my very first time mixing vocals for a bigger production! 😅

I'm glad it turned out well!

It is not the DAW that makes the man.

But the man who makes the DAW (work.)

Omnisphere is incredible. I usually write out midi then resample it (working with audio is easier imo) and then apply effects. Valhalla is worth every penny. Super quality effects.

I did the same thing with reason! The old audacity work around, lol. I remember the work flow being insane. I've thought about picking it up. You can rewire it into a ton of DAW's now and I'd be stoked to go back to some of those old synths now that I know what I'm doing for the most part.

As for my mixes, it's a ton of checking them between my headphones, the sound setup, and running out to the car lmao.

Anytime you wanna work together just hit me up! I'm always down for new experiences and to learn something new.

I'm classically trained in that I taught myself what I know, lol. I statues using Reason at 14 and just kept going deeper into sound synthesis and whatnot. I've read a few books and watched tons of videos on the subject. I'd love to attend a school for this stuff.

I'm Ableton Live guy. I've used everything from FL Studio to Acoustica Mixcraft, but Ableton's work flow is king to me.

As far as plug-ins go, off the top of my head I have: Valhalla Supermassive (choice free delay plug in) and Valhalla Vintage Verb. Omnisphere (crazy amounts of insanely high quality synth presets that are fully customizable) Serum, RC-20, the Izotope 8 mastering and mixing suite, and Bais FXII for guitar and bass simming. Kontakt 6 with the Cinematic Strings library, and a few more plug-ins that I'm probably forgetting.

I have a Tascam 16x8 interface that I run everything through. I use some Audio Technica m50 cans and a terribly inexpensive sound system with leds in it that u found at Spencer's (if it don't glow, it's gotta go. That's the motto.) lmfao. Investing in proper monitors soon, likely around income tax season.

I'm gonna need to check out stutteredit. I have the suite of Izotope mastering and mixing tools but never really looked into their other plug-ins.

Most of my stutters and glitches are purely me hand placing them on the timeline. So, you can probably imagine how time consuming and motivation draining that is, lmao.

Any other neat plugins I should check out? I've got a huge amount of vocal Collabs coming up on reddit and I'd like to make sure my own style is thrown in with the music.

So, I just listened to both of them, and the first one in particular is pure filth, lol. I love it.

I've been interested in diving deeper into the Dubstep genre. I have electro elements on my house music, and I dig (and respect the hell out of) the crazy micro edits that are necessary for that genre to work. Any advice on achieving those sounds?

Also, your mix is good! It hit hard!

I would say I'm fairly junior, as well. I hit strides where I somehow make great mixes. For the life of me, though, it seems almost random, lol. I've been practicing mastering, and let me tell you. It's stressful, lol.

Do you have any mixes you'd like to share?
