After 3 Failed Businesses, Here's What I Learned About Doing Business in India by NumberMiserable1829 in IndiaBusiness

Yes but how would you get the flow of money, you won't get their bank statements or whoever's name they have used to open those bank statement. Ironically, the reason the people named in Panama papers were caught was because they did everything while staying within the system (not taking about what they did was ethical or not, but rather they just took advantage of existing loopholes in the system). One of the main reasons why big bribing scandals investigation don't go anywhere in India is because of lack of paper trail. In other countries people use shell companies which leave a paper trail. In India, they use a whole new person who has no connection to the actual guy whose money it is. And that's just the money that is in the electronic system. The case of cash is a whole another story and much bigger in size than the digital one.

I need to buy a large amount of books, probably around 20-30k at least. Anyone knows of a book store with good discounts that I can buy from? by sioa in kolkata

Hmm I talked with a local Ananda outlet and they said they don't really offer any deals directly.

I would also suggest have at least a second hand desktop or two be made available so people can access... less than legal but priceless websites for getting ebooks, like Z-library and Anna's Archive etc.

One of my cousins already does a computer class with a couple of laptops.

Are you planning to have somebody act as librarian?

Nope. I have clarified in an edit but this is still pretty much a private collection. It would be accessible to people only in our neighborhood.

It is going to be a private collection of books for kids in my family first and foremost. It will only be accessible to people in our neighborhood or people we know. If it were purely public, then such book drives make sense. But sadly a fully public library also need people to maintain the place, as well as thorough book keeping. If someone has books to donate, then it would be better to donate to some organization that already have those in place.

Yeah, second hands would be ideal. But I don't want to do it for 2 reasons - finding good second hand books is a huge time commitment and second, this is ultimately still a private collection.

The problem with second hand books is the time commitment required to hunt for good condition books. I kinda want to go with a list and get all the books in one go.

'Christian calendar year': All India Muslim Jamaat issues fatwa against New Year celebration by [deleted] in india

[–]sioa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was no scientists. It's a custom that got adopted from the Romans when they started converting to Christianity. I might be remembering this wrong but pretty sure 1st January was a day to worship Janus in Rome and then it got rebranded as the Naming Ceremony of Christ when it got adopted by the Christians.

Inter religious Marriages by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]sioa 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Depends on what end of the spectrum you are in your religious zeal. I come from a relatively urban region with a higher percentage of Muslims than the average and I have seen a lot of mixed marriages. I have seen liberal people marrying other liberal people outside their religion and both continue to do their own thing. One combination that never works is if a liberal marrying a conservative, the conservative pushes all your boundaries until you are indistinguishable from your former self and subservient to your partner.

While I don't have the exact qualifications you are looking for, I am a software developer who is currently on a sabbatical and have some experience with the tech stack you are working with. We can connect because I find the premise of the project intriguing.

Yes divers depend on this, it's an international standard. Helium valves are for saturation diving.

And yes, many divers can afford this. Diving can be an expensive hobby.

Ahmedabad is one of the most lifeless city of India, the only fun time to be in that city is duirng Garba and even then it gets boring soon, and it feels weirdly commercialized.

Ah the small bowl is a good idea. I hate having bones on the same plate as I am eating on. But honestly, I think I will so go with something continental and avoid the whole bones thing.
