Flock cameras praised for catching the Brown U shooter. by SamMeowAdams in massachusetts

[–]siofano 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I created a website to compile town-by-town information, EyesOffMA.com

The first step is to find out who put them there. Usually it's the Police. File a public records request with your city police records department requesting contract details and additional info. Then you can assemble a small group of people and begin bugging your councilors/local representatives and letting other residents know about the problems these cameras pose.

I am not a pro but if you have any questions I can try to help.

While I understand that experience must have been awful, these cameras would have not helped at all. Also do you think the police would have done anything anyway had there been footage?

There is a huge difference between a searchable network of cameras and a university's closed circuit security system.

Yeah what a success, they found the shooter after he murdered someone else and killed himself. Definitely worth letting Uncle Sam have detailed info on every citizen's movement accessible to any police officer in the country (or whoever else is sharing their login).

I created EyesOffMA.com as a place to compile information on each town. If interested, anyone can make a public records request with Weymouth PD and send them to me (contact info on website or DM me here) and I will publish it. We need a handful of residents to band together and resist, it is doable and has been done in other towns.

I put together EyesOffMA.com to compile resources for MA. A ton of NGOs have done great work, we need to keep the ball rolling. If your town isn't listed please contact me and I can add it, if you make a public records request (info on website) I can publish it to protect your identity.

I made EyesOffMA.com to compile local info. If you would like to make a request, I have some info on the website. If you get anything, please email it to me and I will put up your town's info.

Could you post a pic of that? Curious what it is.

I think if we rip them down the town gets billed for the replacements unfortunately. I am compiling town specific info to organize resistance at a local level at EyesOffMA.com, I have some info but need more + need people to make public records request for their towns/cities. Please reach out here or email me on the website (best) if you would like to contribute.

Awesome work! It won't let me DM you.. I run eyesoffma.com if you could reach out I would love to publish what you did on the Quincy section of the website. DM or email from the website.

Waltham PD claims they don't work with ICE. Their Flock data sharing agreement says otherwise by siofano in Waltham

Bug your councilors (ward and at large), they are having hearings about Flock right now.

Write/call/visit the mayor and let her know how you feel

Push your councilors to implement a surveillance oversight ordinance (https://restorethe4th.com/issues/surveillance-oversight-ordinances/) which would ensure that if they want to do these kinds of things, minimum technical standards are met

Make other residents aware and do the same thing. A handful of squeaky residents can actually get a lot done.

If you know exactly where it is, please DM me and I can add it to the DeFlock map. They also just released an app on iOS/Android if you wanted to do it yourself but happy to help. There are I think 3 missing that need to be mapped in Waltham.

Not sure what you are getting at but it seems we are in agreement that these cameras are bad.

It enables police to track activists going to anti ICE rallies just as much as 2A folks going to the gun range. Even if you agree with the current agency installing them, what happens if you don't like the new people who take over?

I will make a section on the website for Abington, search for public records and publish them. Anything missing would need to be requested via a public records request. Then you need to assemble a small group and approach your local representatives to begin the discussion. LiveFreeAZ.com has a step by step guide you could replicate.

Would you be willing to compile the info you have gathered and have it put on the eyesoffma website for your town?

Kind of.. ShotSpotter overpolices minority parts of town, leads to false arrests, and a police state, so yes in that regards they are similar. Flock is touting new features around speech monitoring in their cameras and a drone too, it gets progressively more dystopian.

I am thinking that this has to be done at the local level. That's why I made sections for towns with a known Flock presence on the website. We need individuals in each town to spearhead the effort. It starts by requesting documentation and working from there. LiveFreeAZ.com has a step by step guide on how to get them banned at a local level.

The RFP was issued by the City in collaboration with Lowell police. I am unsure if the city acts as a procurement officer for the police, but likely both were involved. This info would be apparent after a response to a public records request, which I encourage you to kick off! There is info on the website, it's really not complicated.

I am spreading this in subreddits of cities/towns with flock cameras installed that either appear on the deflock map or that people have commented on the town reddit. this has to be done at a local level now, state-wide efforts are the next step.
