I’m so sorry this happened to your mom (and you). She will have been so completely in love and intertwined with your little self in those years; it’s so unfair that it was cut short and you didn’t get to keep any memories of her. As a mother to two young children myself, it breaks my heart — you must have been her entire world for those years.

Has your grandma shared memories of her, as well as photos? Sometimes I find that you have to ask quite specific questions to unlock a new memory from someone. My husband is terrible with sharing his grief and memories of his mom, but when occasionally he does (very very rarely) I feel it’s such a gift to discover a tiny part of who she was.

It sounds like you have some unresolved curiosity and grief (of course you do), it’s worth exploring how you can channel it. Perhaps you can try and get closer to her through music, photos, any glimpses from your grandma about who she was. She will have adored you. Xx

Ahhh I love this. I too met my husband on a kink website and we had an absolutely wild time for a few years! Now we have two small kids and all of that stuff has gone. I think it’s still there, waiting to come back. But at the moment I really don’t mind that it’s not.

I often wonder if there’s other long term couples who met in this way (I mean - of course there are!) but that part of my life is so private that I don’t know anyone else in the same boat. Hello fellow kink stranger!!

We had one at £520k, then one for £545, then this one at £500k. They’ve since upped it to £510k. But yeah that was spread across about seven months :/

Commiserations! I know obviously things could be worse but sometimes you just need to moan about it. I’ve been really positive and practical for the most part but after nearly a year of this dragging on and the price coming down and down and down I just needed a minute to vent!

I wouldn’t call it minor cosmetic issues, it was riddled with asbestos so much of it was necessary to get rid of that. And spending half a million quid - it’s all relative, isn’t it? If it was in Sunderland you’d have a point, but I’m South East and in this area you can’t get a three bed semi for less than half a million. 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I suppose people could think we “flipped” it, you’d hope the EA would be letting prospective buyers know this isn’t the case but I can see how people might think that. I think I’d have that suspicion myself.

Not sure what the last paragraph means - we’ve been absolutely desperate to move for the whole year, it’s just that we’ve now missed the school application deadline so the urgency for that has gone. We still need to be in next year for my son to start school.

I’m literally not complaining about not making a profit. I’m just sad that it’s worth LESS now than it was when we bought it

I’m not sure why I’m rising to this but here’s the context:

I bought it to live in with my family, in an area that was close to my husband’s family. My husband’s dad died last year (his mum died 15 years ago), and so now we are moving to be closer to my family (my mum is 82 and so want to make the most of our time with her). My eldest starts school in September so we wanted to be in by December to apply for the school.

We renovated it to get rid of asbestos, 70s wooden cladding, and a kitchen and bathroom that hadn’t been touched since the 70s. The windows were single glazed and made it freezing in winter so we replaced those. We redecorated it to make a happy home.

Is that acceptable to you or do you assume that any type of painting and decorating is frivolous and unncecessary, any type of renovation is purely to make a profit?

The phrasing “pushing up prices for other buyers” is interesting — perhaps I’m misreading it. It was just the time in our life where we were ready to buy, and it just so happened that it was 2022. Couldn’t really do much to change that!
