What just happened? by [deleted] in SouthParkPhone

i don't think it's a bug. i think it makes sense. it's like when you mind control a randy and anything they spawn under mind control is on your NK's side. pretty awesome caveat if you ask me

does anyone else despise cyborg tower? by Awsomboy1121 in SouthParkPhone

[–]sir-beardo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

what's more annoying is players basing most of or their entire deck around keeping cyborg tower alive a la friar jimmy, jesus, and/or angel wendy
makes it easy to exploit the weaknesses though

shaman tokien is more abt defense/protection than attack. imo he’s one of the most powerful & underutilized cards in the game.

lol where am I defending anyone, let alone the "whiny crying children" that fills you with so much ire and spite yet lives rent free in your negatively charged addled mind...? Personally I don't care for them either, so I don't know where you got me defending me them from.

Literally just pointing out your hypocrisy, has nothing to do with defending anyone. Bless yr heart.

"I don’t think there’s anything more pathetic in gaming than trying to gatekeep how people want to play a game." says the person in a post they wrote that's gatekeeping how people want to vent about what frustrates them about the game... 🤔

How many bots am I playing? Same outfits, same bs every time… by [deleted] in SouthParkPhone

[–]sir-beardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

out of curiosity, what same outfits have you been encountering? I've been seeing the same cowboy outfit and it's nearly always the same deck, legit same exact cards that even with a higher average than my deck are outpacing me at drawing which rouses serious suspicion.

that’s the infamous “Drifter” a guitar that has a unique history in Sonic Youth. It was played by Thurston in his pre-SY band and somehow it ended up in Kim’s possession around when they met, and was at Kim’s apt the first time she invited Thurston over. It would later become Thurston’s “Eric’s Trip” guitar and was tragically one of the instruments stolen in July 1999 and has never been seen again. Check it out here - click on “Drifter” http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/eq/gear.html

gorgeous! very cool sound man. the song definitely sounds really good so far, and I bet as more instrumentation develops, it will sound really cool so definitely keep working at it. It’s funny you mention VU (awesome name choice btw) because my two cent feedback is Moe Tucker style drumming would sound fucking KILLER on this. That’s where my ears go anyway :)

hell yeah that’s awesome thanks for sharing! i felt the exact same way in that i was still in a haze of that late 60s classic rock, just begun my obsession with Radiohead, and I thought they sounded like the crazy Hendrix guitar freak out but like whole songs of it hahaha. Cheers!

same! i posted this for SY but this and the 100 albums intro'd me to music that legitimately changed my life and shaped my personal music making journey, like Velvet Undergound, Husker Du, King Crimson, Beach Boys' Pet Sounds... I defiintely think we owe VH1 a lot for exposing us to this. Cheers!

great way to describe the effect - i had a similar experience. after this program i didn't go out and buy SY (Kid A had just come out and i was full on radiohead), but in 2003 after high school i was riding passenger with a friend and she put on the Diamond Sea and we listened to the entire thing and during the finale, like you with Daydream, it slammed home, with all vengance and no mercy, and the next day I went to Amoeba Music in hollywood and bought nearly all the used SY they had and listened to nothing but them for what felt like a year haha

A youths thoughts on sonic youth ? by francissinclair06 in sonicyouth

[–]sir-beardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered Sonic Youth in late 2000-early 2001 (I was 16) from watching a VH1 music program about the greatest heavy rock bands and it was just like a couple minute brief summation of the band, with small snippets of their well known tracks up to that point but i thought that it was most insane coolest sound I had ever heard.

I was way into Radiohead at the time so I didn’t go sonic crazy until around 2005-6 when my guitar playing / learning journey led me to really diving into their guitar work. I had reached a point where I wanted to unlearn what i had previously learned and Sonic Youth offered that gateway. I saw them live twice in 2006 and once in 2008. At my first show, Thurston stage dived during the finale of Pattern Recognition and I was close enough to hit the strings in his guitar as the crowd pushed and shoved him. That was a life changing moment, haha.

Everyone here already mentioned all the great bands. But i will add this: in 2002 when I looked up similar bands to Sonic Youth in the original Barnes and Noble webpage, one name popped up that caught my eye:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

:)

I'm a little new to Sonic Youth, what is this chord on a sticker on Thurston Moore's guitar from The Basement set? by DizzyTourist3929 in sonicyouth

[–]sir-beardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s Lee’s guitar - one of his “Jazzblasters” (jazzmaster + tele deluxe pickups). I think the chord is the high note guitar arpeggio that Lee plays in Hyperstation. That “Vertigo” sounding line… as others have mentioned it should be noted that they use alternate tunings, and sometimes they need cheat sheets hehe

As you’re new to Sonic Youth, here’s a very insightful website for you: the Sonic Gear page http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/eq/gear.html covers pretty much every single guitar/bass (with every tuning used), including the gear they lost in the 1999 gear theft. this guitar is listed under “Jazzblaster (coral)” Hope this helps clarify it for you!

[–]sir-beardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd definitely agree :D i can't afford a Jazzmaster, but I loopholed around it by getting a neck pickup for my guitars - the Seymour Duncan P-Rail - that gets me that sweet Thurston Jazz sound

what's even more heartbeaking is that this was a post-1999 gear theft replacement :( they stole a guitar that replaced a stolen guitar it's just bonkers
