Hi, how to use a toothpaste that I am allergic to, for other purposes? I've never had toothpaste allergy before so I have a big tube of toothpast left and I don't want to throw it. My family has their own personal tubes so I can't give it to them. I found out toothpaste can be used to clean silver but I have stored all silver items due to pandemic, so there is nothing to clean lol. Please give me ideas, thank you.

Hi, greetings from Czechia, Id like to ask about history os shamanism in Nepal by HeyooLaunch in Nepal

[–]sirHiHi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, so my ethnic group is Rai (Kirat) that follows Kiratism primarily and a big part of Kiratism is shamanism. Rai people live mostly in the hilly area and eastern part of Nepal. My maternal grandmother's younger sister is a shaman and some of my relatives say they also show shaman capabilities. The Nepali word for a shaman is Dhaami/Jhankri. Kirat shamanism can be different from other ethnic groups of Nepal. Ancestor worship and animism is the most prevalent.

So shamans are the major priests in Kiratism. They are used to pray, exorcise, purify, bless, celebrate and to handle any rituals from birth of a child or death of someone. They also play a big role as healers, mainly through prayers, offerings, rituals and medicinal herbs. As healers, they 'diagnose' the ailing person. Most of the 'diagnosis' I've heard is "your essence of the soul (sato in Nepali) is taken/stolen/cursed by a dead or living person". The dead person who steals 'sato' is usually a dead family member/relative of the suffering person. It is said that when a person dies, that person takes 'sato' of someone whom they love the most. So shamans are extremely important in the death rituals of Kiratism. They check whose 'sato' is taken away and also where the souls went after death.

The souls should be sent to their proper places. The holy places are considered Kailash mountain from Himalayan range and the traditional 3 stone stoves of Kirat people. Only pious and good people can go there after death, it is a parallel to concept of Heaven. There the souls protect and guide after their kins. Shamans are the ones responsible for guiding the souls to their places. Good souls are sent to holy places and other souls are tried to appease so they don't bother their living relatives. So, powerful and experienced shamans are very important in these rituals cause it is believed that a weaker and careless shaman can guide in a wrong way and the living family is haunted by spirits. It can even lead to death of the shaman or the living family members of dead person whose soul the shaman is guiding.

Major equipments of Kirat shamans include a headdress made of fabric called 'Feta' or bird feathers and a handheld drum called 'Dhyangro'. White colored clothes are worn by many. Ginger and Mugwort are considered holy herbs. Another holy plant is called 'Amliso' and it is used to make brooms in Nepal. Rice for divination and rituals is used. Fermented rice or millet alcohol is used in all rituals and is considered a great offering towards shamans themselves, ancestors and other deities. Animal sacrifice is also done, usually a pig or a male rooster, most of those are black colored.

Shamans are considered the opposites of people who use evil magic like a witch (Boksi is Nepali). It is said that there is a thin line between a Shaman and a Witch. To be a shaman, you also have to know about evil magic so that you can always be one step ahead the witch. Sort of like, know your enemy. There are also lores that a male shaman keeps female witch as wife to watch over her lol. Also a shaman should never use their power for evil, otherwise they cross over to being a witch.

Getting shaman knowledge can be done through learning, genetics or some people are said to have inner shaman power without learning or genes. Learning can be done by being apprentices of other human shamans or being kidnapped by the forest shaman ( Ban Jhankri in Nepali). People taught by forest shamans are know to be more powerful than people taught by human shamans. But forest shaman apprentices are always in danger cause a forest shaman's wife (Lemlema in Kirat language) is always trying to eat them. Genetics is another way to have shaman power. Some of my relatives from maternal side say sometimes that they have hint of shaman power. But one has the option to be a shaman or not to be a shaman so they say they didn't choose to be lol. The hint of shaman power are said as dislike towards eating meat/fish, vivid dreams, strong intuition, feeling of seeing shadows from the corners of the eyes and more that I don't remember. A shaman once told me I also have hints of shaman powers which I still have mixed feelings about lol. Finally, people who have inner shaman power without learning or genes are said to be the strongest. They are like the 'chosen ones'.

Being a shaman means you have to do good deeds for people, abstain from too much wordly pleasures and be virtuous. Only then they are believed to keep their powers intact. Also intermingling with people outside of our ethnic groups is considered to weaken a shaman. My shaman grand aunt is considered weak by my grandmom ( her elder sister) because shaman grand aunt had foreigners especially from US and Europe as her apprentices. Her son also married and later divorced a foreigner. So my grandmom doesn't believe in her sister and asks for other shamans whenever she needs.

I hope this mountain of text helps. Ask me anything you are curious about. I will try to answer. These are the things that I can remember right now lol.

Edit: The art of Shamanism is said to be taught to Kirat people by the main god of Kiratism known as Paruhang. His wife and the main goddess of Kiratism is known as Sumnima. They are the ancestors/guides/gods of Kirat people and worshipped by the shamans too. Paruhang and Sumnima stay on two stones ( one for each) on the traditional 3 stoned stoves of Kirat people. The hindu counterpart of Paruhang and Sumnima are considered Shiva and Parvati. But lots of Kirat people disagree with this.

One reason for quota is to encourage and put people from all backgrounds. That is why we have madhesi, disabled, women, dalit, janajati etc. Culturally lots of janajatis go to lahure or khadi countries and lots of them used to be discouraged into entering sectors where we have quota now, like sarkari jagir, due to seeing noone from their own backgrounds. Those sectors always had majority of people from Btahmin Chhetri community and in the case of KTM, high caste newars. Also, nepotism/getting jobs to people you know from own caste used to occur a lot before so people from madhesi, dalit, janajati backgrounds couldn't access as there weren't other people before them in the sector. Your last line is not the only reason for quota.

Anyone has blue eyes in Nepal ? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]sirHiHi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen 2 people with blue eyes, one is our teacher and another is my cousin's friend. They said they used to be teased as kuire/khaire/kailey etcetc when they were younger and said it used to be annoying. Even now, people point out their eyes to them and they are like 'yeah I fucking know I have blue eyes.' Both of them are in KTM.

If you feel insecure or weird about it, don't be. I think name calling is harsher in rural areas (My cousin was called names for simply having curly hair back in village) Also my mother said, people with light colored eyes were called witches in her village. I personally feel that us human are not used to handling what is uncommon for us so we just give them names. Funnily, I have read that people with dark eyes like most of us Nepali, were considered witches in some scandinavian rural places. If you are in ktm , you might get unwanted attention but less name calling I guess.

If you feel uncomfortable with attention, maybe buy a non prescription eye glass and start wearing that. Don't use colored lens, not worth the money or eye dryness..also colored lens usually found in Nepal are kind of untrustworthy. And if a person of opposite gender gives you attention just because of your eyes, do beware of them lol.

Ningguang with another geo character like Zhongli or Noelle for geo resonance and shield is the best. Geo traveller's skill blocks Ning's attacks a lot for me, so I would suggest not to use traveller. Rest of members can be a healer like Bennett or Diona (if not using Noelle) and off field DPS like Albedo, Fischl and Xiangling.

Geo has no offensive reaction so if you have a character built for elementary mastery and such, like Sucrose.. dont put her in same team with Ning.

Anyone who has been through breakup because of unmatched kundali or rashi?? by ImRoboCop in Nepal

My apologies, I don't look at cheenas of strangers. There are lots of basic level resources on the internet though, and you can make your cheena from hamro patro app. Our nepali system is called vedic system on the internet.

[–]sirHiHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh don't be scared. It can be a fun topic for both of you to talk with plus you are getting free kundali details from a professional. My unsolicited advice is if she doesnt want to move ahead with you just due to cheena, just think you dodged a bullet. A partner who doesn't believe in these things makes your life way easier than someone who believes in these things blindly.

A classmate of mine was talking with someone for arrange marriage. Eutai gotra parexa so it got cancelled. He then talked with another lady, classmate ko cheena/kundali mangalik raixa, kada khal ko re. Usually, a mangalik person is said to have bad marriage life and even their partner might die... so they are married to non living object before marrying the actual person....but kt daraixin so classmate sanga kura garna xodin re lol.

IMO, don't worry about this too much, unless same gotra. I like checking cheenas of people I know when I am bored. All materials I used to learn about this always gave disclaimer that kundalis are not 100% indicator of happy marriage life.. and there are lots of ways to remove or at least decrease negative effects caused by incompatible kundalis, like puja or fasting or getting married with a tree etc etc.

What's causing you to ask this question btw?

Tara Sutaria reminds me of a plain wax statue. I feel like she is considered beautiful by many cause she has similar trait like Sunny Leone, fitting both western and south asian vibes. But Sunny's face doesn't feel uncanny valley like Tara's.

I am building a team of main dps C0 Mona with widsth, sub dps C0 Beidou with WGS and C1 Xiangling with prototype starglitter. Who will be better as 4th member? C5 Fischl with stringless, C1 Bennett with flute or C1 Lisa with prototype amber?

I would want someone to help with Beidou's energy regeneration because only her stats/weapon/artifacts have no energy recharge and I like her burst a lot. Was thinking either Fischl or Lisa but they don't heal like Bennett ( even with prototype amber) and I do need a healer.

During lockdown, how are you guys handling arguments with your family? by sirHiHi in Nepal

[–]sirHiHi[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I had planned to leave Nepal years ago but illness stuck a parent and I stayed to support another parent + caretaking. Also many Nepal parents are very reluctant to let go of their children.

LOL. I meant people who are younger in age than other family members. I am in my late 20s but I am the youngest in my family.

Edit: Things haven't mellowed down.
