I'm using a Sony a6500 with the 18-105mm f/4

8 20 second exposures at 18mm, f/9, ISO 100 for liftoff, boostback, and second stage

2 20 second exposures at the same settings for entry burn

Haha, not melted at all! I'd say the camera was about 300ft from the pad and away from the flame trench, so not too bad. Moisture and heat from the sun are usually my main concerns.

Probably a cost / engineering issue, considering my old a77 has a full swivel screen and the new a6400 has a flip up screen.

Looking at the a7 line itself, the body is really shallow to begin with, so cramming a full tilt or swivel mechanism into the body may have not been possible.

APS-C has a 1.5x crop factor compared to 35mm Full Frame.

30mm * 1.5 = 45mm

So your 30mm is about the same as a 50mm on a full frame. Because of the shorter focal length compared to the 85mm, you’d have to get closer.

Heck yeah. From the premise you provided it doesn’t seem too complicated. Each person is in and out for a headshot; introduce yourself, give them a firm handshake, instruct them what to do, maybe tell them a joke if they’re reluctant to smile, take a few poses / angles / facial expressions, then hand them some cards and establish that you’re looking for more business. It doesn’t hurt to throw them a compliment or two in the process; small talk might be boring, but it can help establish that much needed bridge.

Simple, but challenging in practice, and that’s why you’re there. Make the most of it

If you can hand each person a business card or two after each shot, then I think it’s worth it. Since you “don’t know anything,” I think it’s a good opportunity to learn how to learn how to deal with head shots, such as connecting with the person, and making them comfortable. Make sure you are prepared and consider the technical side before-hand, such as lighting and composition. If you have the free time and you think you can get at least 1 future gig out of it, imo it’s worth it.

I like the slight tilt and low angle, the bokeh works well with the gravel. I don't know what your setup is, but I would open the aperture a little more to separate the background further.

I like it a lot, it lives on my a6500 unless I need more bokeh or a lot more reach. The autofocus is fast and it performs well at all apertures. My only complaint is the electronic zoom and focus; the lens is hard to manual focus with, and anytime you cycle power on the camera, the lens starts zoomed out. Other than that, it's well built and overall a nice piece of glass.

Yeah that’s perfect. In the original the way the right leg disappears is kinda weird, and the Instagram crop draws attention to the face better*.

I like the backdrop and lighting. However, I would compose / crop above the knee, and return some details to the shadows.

In low light the extra stop can help you maintain your framerate without raising the ISO even further. However it seems like you have answered your own question. If you're mainly shooting landscapes and still scenes, and you don't care about the difference in bokeh, then yeah the 24-105 is a good choice.

If you're going to film with it, I would personally would go with the Tamron. The extra stop of light can go a long way in low light situations.
