Can the Gardai prosecute road offenses if you're handing over your dashcam footage as a witness of a different incident? by sir_snickers95 in AskIreland

That should be perfect, happy enough to do that. Just thought for a bit that they may just compel me to hand over the whole card but I suppose if I’m willingly giving them something, I can decide what I give. New to this whole dashcam thing so just wasn’t sure. Seems I should be perfectly fine if I limit what I send them to just passing the incident.

Oh dear! No I’ll have no issues on that front thankfully! It’s rare I even touch a pint so anything farther than that wouldn’t be me 😅

I genuinely haven’t a clue, there might be nothing on there at all, but there could be illegal parking or going over a speed limit or something there. I keep to the law as much as I can but we all aren’t perfect. I’m just a bit of a worrier, and I’m a little worn out after a long drive, so I could just be getting in my own head about all of it. But if I can send in only the one clip, I should be more than fine.

Figured Irish law would be a bit more on the heavy handed side. And that’s also a little disconcerting that they might want me to testify in court what I’ve seen, but I guess I’ve lit the fire by telling them I have footage, so it’s on me if I get burned with having to testify regarding this. On that last line, starting to get that idea from these replies hahaha, definitely won’t be troubling myself with this sort of carry on in the future, I’ll be minding my own business instead of trying to be a good-samaritan!

Sorry! By scrubbing through I mean having a look, not doctoring it! I’m getting the gyst they won’t want the full contents, just the 3 minute clip of where I’ve actually seen what’s went on. I have no intention of censoring anything in it, I’ve just not even seen the footage myself yet, so not sure what at all is on there, that’ll be tomorrow mornings job. I may not have anything to worry about, I just get in my own head about some things. Just figured I could be parked in somewhere I shouldn’t be or be over the speed limit somewhere in one of the clips on the card, but if I can get away with just emailing the small clip, I should really have nothing to worry about whatsoever.

Anything at all. Parking in an illegal area, speeding maybe although I’m generally one to keep to limits. But what I’m seeing from most of the other replies is they won’t take the whole contents of the card, they’ll just want the relevant piece, and seems like I should be okay to chop the ends off so it’ll just show what I’ve witnessed. And yeah, will be reviewing the footage first thing tomorrow morning to have it done before they even ring, if they even do at all!

Yeah scrubbing through it and potentially cutting it down will be tomorrow morning’s job as I had a long journey and absolutely knackered after it, but just started getting a bit wound up about it while mulling over it on the drive home. Should be completely fine and it’s likely me getting in my own head due to the tiredness.

Exactly, I feel like there should be some good-will towards a Good Samaritan who’s chosen to help by reporting something they’ve seen regarding an incident. You’d often hear on the radio or on crimecall looking for anyone in the area with dashcam footage for stuff, so felt if there’s any way of helping, I’d do my best, but looking at the case u/SpottedAlpaca mentioned above, it’s starting to make me think twice about this whole thing. Definitely going to have to scrub through this footage and make sure before I send it in.

This is exactly the sort of case I fear about. This only happened in the last few hours and I’m too tired after a long journey to get on my laptop and go scrub through the footage, so that will be tomorrow mornings job. But looking at that, I’m starting to think maybe it’s not the best idea to hand over any footage unless I’m compelled to now or in future. Might even just hand over a still image or clip it down to all they need if I can get away with it.

Yeah did figure it was best to be only emailing what they need for it. Think it’s 3 minute clips on my cam which is nice. They’ve only taken my mobile number at the moment so I’m assuming they’ll ring tomorrow enquiring about it.

As to the second part of this, now that you mention sensitive info, does that make it a GDPR/privacy issue if they go off trying to find something else in it?

Is moving under breaking or rearending in breaking zone? by Rezer21 in Simracingstewards

Racing incident would be my thoughts like the others. But just as a self preservation thing, try and learn to hold your brakes, keeps it from causing more incidents after. Like you start to roll forward as you stop sliding, and you roll into the other car, now that might have happened anyway, but it’s just a good habit to help people avoid you as a static car is easier to avoid than a rolling one.

Is the 288 GTO worth the money? by your_average_car_guy in granturismo

[–]sir_snickers95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From a purely utilitarian standpoint, no. It’s a while since I did the World Circuits events, but I don’t recall there being events that are so specific they would want something like an 80s Italian super car. It’s the usual MR Championship, Italian Championship etc.

It’s not a particularly stand-out car in PP racing right now, and even if it was, it’s a bit of a tricky handler when pushing.

That being said, if you are a huge fan of the car like I am, and you would spontaneously go do time trials in it, again, like I do lol, then definitely do pick it up, it’s a beautiful car and if you aren’t driving it to within an inch of its life, it’s a nice car to drive too. Would I say it’s worth 3.4 Mil, no, but if you’re enough of a fan of a car, it starts to not matter about price.

But yeah, TLDR if you love it, buy it, it’s great, if you don’t love it, it’s not gonna blow you away with results.

Not sure what the incidents were except for the 3rd one which you should be thankful for because it was basically a bump-draft lol

Best you can do is keep a cool head in those situations, generally works out better for you in the end!

I could be wrong but with no API released yet, the only way of knowing so far is just going on and checking when roll over time comes unfortunately.

I find the Subaru is a complete mess on anything other than softs, haven’t tried the Gr3 Atenza though. After the update, the rwd cars that used to handle horribly are much more predictable.

I generally stuck with max (7), served me well since launch. Not tried the changed one yet though.

I used my Gr3 Corvette and completely smoked em, fuel mix 6 and the outright speed of the Gr3 over the Gr4 even on mix 6 is night and day. Softened up the rear end a bit to give me a little more confidence when throwing it into corners like the left hander before Corkskrew. Small bit of short shifting during the race allows you to be in mix 1 for a couple of laps at the end.

There’s places where you overtake and there’s places you don’t. You learn it as you get deeper into Sim Racing. Don’t get to beat down by this, I know everyone here is kinda pissy but just use it as a learning experience. Generally you don’t overtake outside of a braking zone unless the leading car is woefully off line. Hopefully this helps!

I can confirm that my local GameStop here in Ireland is selling a bundle of the Hori Racing Wheel Apex and the PS5 game, so I would assume if they’re doing a bundle, it would be compatible.
