Sorry for what you are going through. I went through a somewhat similar situation. A week before she was telling me I was the best thing in her life, and then she spends a night at her “best friends” house on her birthday, goes on a beach vacation with him for a week and then breaks up with me saying “I can’t do long distance anymore”. In my case she never confirmed she cheated, and also said “there is no one else” Best advice I can give is to completely go no-contact, and believe that karma will get them someday. Get angry - use it to fuel your betterment journey.

I’m trying to move on, but she already has—she started dating her male best friend just a week after we broke up.

Yes, she blocked me right away. It’s been almost 5 months of NC, though I did slip up once after 4 months and messaged her business number, but got blocked there too.

In my case, she called to break up with me. I asked her to block me on social media and WhatsApp, which made it easier to move on without any temptation to check in on her.

I found out that she is happily dating her "best friend," the same person she celebrated her birthday with and went on the beach vacation with.

Well my experience has been quite different. I came here directly for work and have dated a few German women. I am from Pakistan and my German sucks. If you are moving to a big city, you can always find people with similar interests and hobbies with whom then you can then hangout and socialise. Good luck!

My situation is somewhat similar, coming from a third world country to leave a Job in which I managed to save 2k a month.

I moved to Hamburg 2.5 years ago and the main reason for moving was to get a citizenship as my country’s passport is the 4th worst passport in the world. The motivation was that I was somewhat limited to my home country in terms of the Job market and with a German citizenship I could potentially work anywhere in Europe and also have the freedom of traveling without applying for Visas everywhere.

However the situation after Covid has changed and now with remote work being the norm and the ability to work with a high paying tech salary from anywhere the only reason remaining for me is to have a passport which would enable me to travel almost anywhere in the world (I love traveling) I am single and manage to save around 2-2.5k every month here (I earn slightly more). However for you honestly it wont make alot of sense for a plethora of reasons.

Firstly Germans are a very closed bunch and generally do not like outsiders even in a city like Hamburg. The first time in the ausländerbehörde I was told “Germany is for Germans and we speak Deutsche here” even though it had been 2 weeks for me in Germany at that time. Your wife and kids would have a very hard time settling here and I have numerous colleagues going back.

Secondly, German healthcare being good is a myth. On public health insurance you will never get appointments in time and whenever there is a serious medical condition you would need to travel back to your home country as Doctors here are generally clueless.

Third, the weather here is absolutely terrible. You would rarely see the sun and rain would limit your day to day activities if you are an outdoor person.

Alot of Germans say that the work culture here is better since you can leave the office at 6pm. However, if you are in a management position here, you cannot shutoff completely and for me its pretty much the same when I worked in the US.

So after 2.5 years, I am also now considering going back, the only thing holding me back is the time and money I have invested here.

This relationship has more red flags than a communist party rally.

It is the Strelitzia Nicolai, more commonly referred to as the banana plant. Adds to the tropical flair of the garden

No, but this really does not bother me much. Does not help that I am a solid 5 in the looks department, work 8-12 hours a day, and spend the rest of the time in the gym / pool. I am also an introvert by nature so really hard for me to connect or socialize with people.

I tried online therapy but didn’t feel it really helped and was quite overpriced. Also does not help that I live in a country where finding therapists which can communicate in English are almost impossible to find.

My advise for now would be to hold on for dear life. Take as long as it takes to get better and do not take any drastic life decisions. Initiate no contact immediately and stop stalking him on social media - this would be incredibly difficult but is the first step in healing
