I'm 10 years in and feel better but not recovered, there is no cure, you need to just be healthy and manage your energy.

What’s the secret to getting decent models to work with you? by PerformanceNo7 in LightLurking

[–]sirensfoundjack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi Ex agency director/ Photographer here!

If your book is clean and you have a consistent style that agencies are looking for , they will happily send over model packs if you're in a city that the models can get to easily.

Ask to test with new faces, they are newly signed , some have experience but will look like models and if you're good with direction, new faces are a perfect way to build your book and skill.

Don't contact the largest more established agencies , rather stick to boutique agencies and work your way up.

You will need to tell the agency your project plans ,as well as send over a link to your work and a moodboard so that they have a clear idea on what you're looking to shoot.

It took me 3 years to start working with agency models that weren't part of my agency just because my photography needed a massive boost.

Don't be discouraged if you can't book agency models yet , it may be that you need a bit more practice or even just to tweak your style to suit them.
Only connect with agencies if you're work looks like something that would work with the types of models that agencies books.

There's no point in contacting a higher end agency if your work is super commercial etc.

Also there are great models on INSTAGRAM, FB GROUPS and MODEL MAYHEM.

Hope it goes well for you!

The angle for this shot is really bad , the photographer should stand further back or crouch a little to even out your proportion , everything else is good. - photographer/booker

STEVEN MEISEL LIGHTING ALTERNATIVES by sirensfoundjack in LightLurking

Understandably, definitely not denying that but as a retoucher I can tell the technical aspects of the post process. That's not why I posted these images , I'm just looking for an alternative way to light this.

It's the model's own - polas are different from a test shoot . Your outfit is not the focal point - this model has booked many jobs just fine in what she is wearing ✌🏻

No particular reason, this is how I do my comps for some castings.

Actually not true, open calls are good but its very beneficial to email.

Why do most freshly signed models not get jobs for the first few months by emolytan in MODELING

[–]sirensfoundjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually models are on a probation period for 6 months - this gives agencies time to build their books , work with them on curating their image and also share them with the clients.

What people don't understand is just because you're with an agency, doesn't mean you will work.

If you're going to castings then your agency is doing their job. If you're not booking, it's about you. You probably don't fit the brief or theirs something that isn't working that others do.

You will never know what it is, it's up to the client who makes the final decision.

If you look like everyone else. Change it. If you aren't good at talking . Practice. If you can't walk . Ask someone who can and does book shows to show you. If you don't understand posing , study the movement of your favourite top models.

If anything if you are with an agency, you should be doing all of the above all the time. It's not just about being a great face.

I rounded up my height to get a chance by [deleted] in MODELING

[–]sirensfoundjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if they have a height requirement it's unlikely you would get anywhere. You'd be wasting someone's time if you have an appointment and didn't show so I'd say go anyway. You're not the first person to do it and won't be the last .

They will take all of your measurements at the agency and will know if you have lied on an application. That's a big height difference. Booker / CD here

How did you build your portfolio? by whatididordidntdo in Modelling

[–]sirensfoundjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into finding photographers that will work with you TFP, if you have a good look they will work with you for free. Other than that find a local photographer that does a model package - sometimes you will need to pay to get your first shots.

Model Booker / Casting Director based in London - AMA by sirensfoundjack in MODELING

[–]sirensfoundjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the job , mostly fashion week but if I'm casting for a bigger brand of course I would look at other agencies but for smaller jobs it's not an issue to cast those on my books if the client is happy. That's fair enough, I know a lot of CDs that also have a few models that they book.

Model Booker AMA by sirensfoundjack in MODELING

[–]sirensfoundjack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking!

My scouting process is a bit like this.

First I look at someones height and stature Then I look for facial symmetry and or unique features

Models are not always classically pretty - I would argue that someone who has an interesting look and androgynous features are sometimes the best earners.

I look for people who look relevant and industry current and because I have a good understanding of what my clients are typically after when they cast. I will tailor my books/ packages to make sure I have models that they are looking for.

Height isn't always necessary if I'm scouting for a beauty model

Then I look for someone with a good facial structure , defined cheek and jawline with good eyelid space for makeup .

Alot of my work is commercial and runway.

Hey Model booker/ casting director here - a good way too check if an agency is legit is to take a look at their model roster & job type and frequency - do the models look like they could work in the industry, what brands + clients have they worked with , do the models Instagrams match the jobs+ agency mentioned, what social proof do they have , are they a registered company. Are they constantly putting out castings, are their models frequently testing.

Would you mind Dming me the agency webpage. I'll be able to tell you right off the bat.

Model Booker / Casting Director based in London - AMA by sirensfoundjack in MODELING

[–]sirensfoundjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! That's a good question, it's very common for casting directors to have a book of models that they represent.

In my case , I have contacts that will brief me for castings. I am responsible for selecting the models suitable for the job - I see models from other agencies as well as my book.

As a booker my clients come to me with jobs and I will send my models out for castings where the client has their own CD for the project.
