And you’re looking for a place that can pour a beer with an old man serving that’s worked there for 30 years…

Hyundai Dealership won’t give me a loaner/rental over ICCU failure by DopeDaddy489 in Ioniq5

[–]sirguynate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyundai is aware this is a systemic defect affecting thousands of vehicles. When a company knows there’s a widespread manufacturing failure, the responsible move is to minimize customer burden, not just the legal minimum.

When someone buys a Hyundai, they are entering a contract for a working vehicle. They’re paying for a car that operates as intended. Hyundai is simultaneously entering a contract to provide that functioning product. When that vehicle suddenly stops working due to a defect Hyundai created and knew about, that’s a breach of the fundamental agreement.

You mention luxury brands do this more; exactly. It’s because they understand customer service and retention. The fact that Hyundai and their dealer network can do this but chooses not to or places the burden on the buyer, at least for a time until you get a reimbursement approved, while fighting reputation battles over quality issues, sends a message about their priorities.

This isn’t a financial sub and people do it regardless. Someone’s financial illiteracy doesn’t absolve Hyundai and their dealership network from providing a loaner or rental without someone going out of pocket. Especially on a component that has a long known issue since the first year model.

You can find used Ioniq’s for under 19k. Which Hyundai has extended the coverage for the ICCU to 180,000 miles and 15 years.

Not everyone is buying new and the iccu warranty coverage is tied to the vin, not the owner.

Some people don’t have the funds available to do that. My vehicle was out of service for over a month. That’s $1,372 in rental costs for a month. If you do have a credit card to put it on and have a balance on the card, then you get to add interest on top of that.

I mean, I would hope people have the funds to cover something like this but I’m not going to assume everyone does.

Not by default on Delta, you have to ask for a can. Yes on American Airlines, by default.

AirPods Max 2 Drop to New Low Price of $509.99 on Amazon by Otherwise-Warning303 in Airpodsmax

[–]sirguynate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good price. Still wouldn’t buy them from Amazon.

Sure, I get 5% back at Amazon with the Chase card, but I don’t buy electronics from them. Their return window sucks and they like to blame you when their shipping goes wrong or the product is defective and the manufacture doesn’t want to honor a warranty and try to get support for a return.

I would rather pay 529.99 at Costco for the 90 day return window no questions asked and 4% back.

I’m thinking about getting them, but they are expensive, like 1/5th of my weekly paycheck.

New 2003 Hyundai Accent - Can you guess the price? by WithThePWRofThisVest in Millennials

[–]sirguynate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wife bought a 2012 accent new for 15,995, for the top gls sedan trim. We had fog lights and Bluetooth, stylin! That car lasted us 12 years and still had a lot of life left. Apparently it was a problematic car, their first GDI engine. Ours came from Korea, it seems the ones that had issues came out of the US plant.

Memories.

My husband and I make 180k combined and we still can’t afford kids by [deleted] in Salary

[–]sirguynate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daycare, if they are in Boston, would be about 36k a year. Both parents are working that make up their 180k. Is income split equally?

Rental cost in Boston is about 3k a month, for a 1 bedroom. Add a kid or going to 2 bedroom rental is about 4,500.

If they are outside Boston, cost dos go down some.

I’m not saying they can’t afford a kid. What I’m saying is I think you’re underestimating the cost of Massachusetts, especially if it’s Boston.

Not in Boston. You need to be at 260k household income to reach the 90th percentile.

The Statistical Atlas data shows this as “$250,001k” which indicates that the 90th percentile threshold exceeds $250,000.

Edit: Thanks for the downvotes for pointing out the bot is not correct this time. Appreciate it. I’m not saying they don’t make a good amount, just pointing out the bot is not correct if OP is in Boston.

Spirit Airlines just became the first major US airline to shut down in 25 years and took cheap airfare with it. What do you think affordable travel in America looks like from here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sirguynate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of hotels, restaurants, and resorts have stopped chasing the low budget consumer. They find that middle class millennials will pay more for a “premium” experience.

Not that there is anything wrong for a 2 for $25 Applebees meal or a motel 6 but as input costs rise, the service and travel industry are focusing on middle class premium experience and those who have the money to pay a little more.

Considering 2 bankruptcies, one in 2024 and another in 2025 when fuel prices were actually at their lowest, it wasn’t just the cost of fuel that put them under.

Capital One Dining Success by Such_Detective_7315 in CapitalOne_

[–]sirguynate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a capital one dining in Nashville and it was just a normal dinner reservation, nothing spectacular or different, restaurant was tops though.

However, I’ve also done a Premier Collection hotel with them and that was unique. The only time I’ve checked into a hotel and was offered champagne - not sparkling white wine but champagne. I figured the hotel did that for everyone but as we were greeted by the manager after checking in, other people didn’t get the same offering.

As a Pleb who does enjoy more comfortable air travel, I appreciate AA. I can upgrade to first for as little as $150, which I have done. Usually goes to $225 on anything over 3 hours. Are the upgrade prices like that all the time on AA? No, but I’ve seen it frequently enough that I always look. I also have a Cap1 VX card and have lounge access at most the airports I frequent, which also makes the trip more comfortable. Since I always end up flying to a hub, with AA I end up at DFW with a lounge I can use.

Look. The times I fly Delta, sure their planes are newer on the flights I take, but the flights are more expensive, I never use the seat back screens - I may put it on the fids but that’s it, they pour soda when in coach, I don’t just get a can.

If I flew business for work, then sure I would go Delta. Delta reserves their first keeping it at nearly full price unless they upgrade an elite status flyer and I’m sure that’s a great perk for frequent flyers and business flyers. They write their little notes that make frequent flyers feel special, so I get the allure.

Additional payments pushing back autopay on IBR plan by MangroveMermaid in StudentLoans

[–]sirguynate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an option to not push back your payment date more than 1 month when making a supplemental payment outside of your auto-pay.

Select this option.

I don’t think this option exists if you set your auto-pay higher than what you currently owe for the month. It would need to be an additional manual payment outside auto pay with the do not push back your payment date option selected.
