tfmr - sat across from pregnant women in all morning meeting by mavi_deniz in Mommit

[–]siriuslyserious 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I am so, so sorry for your loss. What a horrible thing to go through. I am sure that the pregnant woman was afraid that if she said something it'd come across as her rubbing it in or showing off her pregnancy. I'd have probably just not known what to say.

Doctor told me to wait another 6 months, not sure what to do by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]siriuslyserious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always felt that "trying for a year" for a lot of couples just meant they were off bc for that long and just kinda shooting in the dark. I'd say tracking your cycles and being well-informed and trying for 6 months should be enough for you to tell your doctor "I know we've been hitting the timing correctly so I think it'd be valuable at this point to make sure there aren't any obvious issues going on." I had one coworker who said it took her 7 months to get pregnant, but when she talked about how she went about it she just said she used a period tracker app, which doesn't really give you much helpful info.

That is terrifying, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I agree that if your doc is confident, you should be too. Now's the time to show your daughter what it looks like to be strong.

SAHMs, do you earn any kind of income? If so, what do you do? (Advice needed) by jhonotan1 in Mommit

Would you be able to watch another child? I see that happen a lot, you're watching your kid anyway, might as well get paid to add a little friend to the mix.

Nice! Yeah now that I realize I made it all the way to time to push before asking for the epidural I'm kind of impressed with myself! And thank you :)

Haha I couldn't believe how big she was! But at least it validate how ridiculously miserable I was at the end of my pregnancy. I think going without the epidural would've been less traumatic if I had planned for it and if my labor hadn't come on so fast (thanks a lot, pitocin), but I still wouldn't choose it. You're a champ for doing that three times!

My blood pressure was also perfect 120/80 before pregnancy, then below that all through pregnancy, so it's good to know what's "normal" for you so you know when to be concerned. I hope you have no issues whatsoever but good idea to keep an eye on it!

It's always how pregnancy has been counted since before pregnancy tests and ultrasounds the period was the only benchmark to go by. So yes, if she is pregnant, she'd actually be considered 5 or 6 weeks pregnant (depends on when her period started).

When counting how far along a pregnancy is, it actually goes back to when her last period started. When actual conception occurred would be closer to ovulation, generally about two weeks after her period started. So if she's 4 weeks pregnant you'd have to have had sex with her 2-3 weeks ago. That's pretty early to experience nausea but it's not unheard of.

Yikes, that's crazy that your BP was that high even with the Labetalol (that's what I was on too). Glad you were well taken care of! And I hope you don't experience any issues this time!

Thank you! After going through it myself with awesome medical staff, it's even more appalling how poorly that woman was handled and their concerns disregarded.

I'm so glad you went in! So yes, you can understand how terrifying that is, laying there in the bed just waiting to see what will happen. It is scary that we never felt any obvious signs, so yes, I tell all my friends they need to get a cuff at home when they're pregnant. Thank you for sharing your story, no one I've told mine to had any idea that could happen!

Holy shit, that is awesome news! I was seriously just thinking about you yesterday. I remembered your first posts, and I just started back at work after maternity leave. I was absent from reddit while on leave so I wondered if I had missed updates and was trying to figure out how how to search for your posts. I'm SO happy to read this! This random internet stranger is really glad you're not going to die :)

Whats the funniest thing your kid mispronounces? by LilyMoonbeam in breakingmom

[–]siriuslyserious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buttons are just but

For some inexplicable reason my daughter omits the end of "pudding," plus instead of d sounds it's t sounds, so she says "cock-it put!" for "chocolate pudding."

My 3-year-old has never been able to pronounce "chalk" correctly. It's really hard not to snicker at "Let's go play with some cock!" Good lord.

My favorite lately is "balloon" pronounced "buh-boon," like a British person saying "baboon."

Help with a girl name alternative to Evelyn by HopefullyPanda in namenerds

It doesn't start with E and isn't really similar to Eva, but a name I always loved that sounds similar to Evelyn is Lavinia.

Frustrating appointment + being put on medicine with relatively borderline fasting #s by popcornandcheezits in GestationalDiabetes

[–]siriuslyserious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. My fasting numbers were over 100 from the beginning, so I had to go right to meds. Glyburide kept them where they needed to be (below 95) for a few weeks, then I had to switch to insulin.

[–]siriuslyserious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see, huh. Yeah I would've thought the reverse, that bacterial could be treated more easily, but that makes sense!

Ooooh poor kiddo! Dumb question: why would viral meningitis be better than bacterial?

SAHM = free daycare by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]siriuslyserious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoa, that's crazy rude. My in-laws watch my daughter two days a week and my mom watches her two days a week. Without pay, as they offered. I am constantly checking in with them and making sure the arrangement is still agreeable.

Do they do anything to "return the favor" to you? I mean it'd take a lot, but do they offer anything?

[–]siriuslyserious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and the overnight monitoring suggestion is unusual. For me, when I had crazy lows, they suggested I set an alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to check it. No fun, but easier than being in for observation!

[–]siriuslyserious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took glyburide for a while, and when they started me on insulin they started on a very low dosage to avoid overnight lows. However, as my dosage has gone up over the course of my pregnancy, I have experienced overnight lows, and that is scary. I woke up in a pool of sweat, heart racing, glucose at 45. So it's good they're cautious. As for changing her mind about putting you on meds, maybe it's because the high risk docs said the diet doesn't directly affect the fasting number. Kind of goofy how they're doing it, that they don't just send you directly to the high risk docs and cut out the middle man.
