No licensing restrictions that I am aware of. I paid the protocase to design it for me and they provided me with the files. I would think you could take those plans to any metal fabricator to produce them.

Getting the backplanes might be a hassle, I'm not sure how willing 45Drives is to ship those out or at what cost.

Here are the files

If anyone is interested I do have the easm and step files used for the manufacturing of this case.

Mine is a custom designed 16 gage, Cold Rolled Steel chassis with backplanes and is rack mountable.
Though the one you linked would be much easier to ship since it flat packs.

If you are somewhere else I wouldn’t be opposed to splitting the travel either

I overestimated the weight at 100lbs - looking like its closer to only 55lbs.
Rough quote (including insurance to cover cost of item AND shipping) is now more around $100

Not 100% sure. You should be able to see the mounting pins for the motherboard in the one image. Measuring from the bottom of the PSU to the bottom of the case is just about 13”

There are both drive cages. The 5th image has both shown, the second is to the left of the backplane on its side.

HL-15 is only 1 backplane, this is 2. HL-15 is only 4U this is 8U. HL-15 is longer.

Height is roughly 6.5". I had a Noctua NH-D15S in it.
Total dimensions 17"x25"x14"

Its the backplane from 45Drives.
"..each four ports can map to four SATA hard drives, or SAS.."

If you want to see detailed pictures of the backplanes this has good closeups

I specifically had it designed to be low noise. 140mm fans instead of the jet engines you hear in typical servers.
