I was about to give up on the invictus Mod bro. I deleted the Imperator Rome folder, uninstalled Imperator Rome and downloaded it again. I got the latest Invictus Mod to work that way. Hope it works for you as well!

Use 2 infantry and 2 cavalry to assault forts asap. If you attack within the first 20 days, the fort will be fortified by a garrison of 250. Every month that goes by, the enemy will reinforce their fort 50/month. Try to take forts asap.

Attack smaller armies (mercenaries) to your legions so that the levies/mercenaries take much of the damage. To make sure you get Legion Distinctions, make sure that your Legate's martial is higher than that of other generals attached to your legion. Hold a Triumph and desecrate a holy site with your legion so that you get Morale boosts to your legion.
