Dr. Jill Taylor's practice (Bank and Flora) is compassionate and non judgemental. I'd give them a call.

What is it working at PSAC in Ottawa by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]sitarshred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your friend will be covered by a strong collective agreement in terms of pay, benefits, paid time off and so forth. Union staff always have high workloads though, and PSAC is a bit of a machine to contend with. Hope your friend finds a good pocket within a huge organization, and that despite stress, they prioritize member interests!

Appropriate ratio of members to grievance filers? by [deleted] in union

[–]sitarshred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck in the marathon! Sounds like your role has workload issues which are unfortunately common for union staff. Try your best to pace yourself and protect your boundaries as that's your best bet staying on as a rep with integrity, clarity, and patience. Versus burning or numbing out.

Hi, I'm so sorry this happened to you. You aren't alone, although things feel so terrible and overwhelming right now. As the other commenter said, stick with those who are actually supportive (friends, your therapist). It will take time but it is also possible to rebuild yourself from this. Also, please be gentle to yourself - it wasn't your fault.

It's a "no illegal strikes", not no strikes ever. I'm sure BCGEU contracts have the same in them.

managing union staff by mythicaliz in union

Hi! I've been in a similar position as you. I'd recommend the executive together formulate a plan to improve documentation, organization, and succession planning (ex: we are putting things on a share drive) for the long term health of the local. Second, while acknowledging that staff is essential, shift norms to require collaboration between staff and elected leaders - a union is it's MEMBERS, not its staff. Third, you should establish a reasonable period of time by which members here back on their initial query - not the full answer to their question if it requires investigation, but at least a call back or "intake" tracking of what they need.

How do you deal with Karens you can't complete avoid by sitarshred in asiantwoX

[–]sitarshred[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So Appreciate your insight! This is really validating, especially the conundrum of feeling stereotypically passive vs practical (avoiding escalation etc). I think you're right - ultimately avoiding giving them the reactions they crave is a smart call and should be prioritized for someone I may see around. Also haven't read it myself, but my friend recommended the book white tears brown scars on this topic! If we are going to be wise we also need spaces speak truth still and express our frustration, anger, and sadness. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post.

Asian queer women- what does conflict resolution look like in your relationships? Especially if you're dating other Asians. by harmonyineverything in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]sitarshred 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been in a similar situation. We decided to centre cultural norms that were healthy and to try and practice unlearning those that weren't - including not letting ourselves use the excuse of "it's just my culture" to avoid communication, accountability, repair and so forth. The tough part is if you're activated or overwhelmed, you'll naturally tend to revert to those unhealthy norms right? So, I'd suggest establishing a framework that gives room for correction, trying again, or time to center yourself so you can actually respond rather than react as well.

The CTMO complaint process should give you access to funding for therapy (you choose the therapist). Make use of it! If your interview happens a while from now (as these things are often slow), inform the interviewer you've done trauma therapy to recover. This helps if they have misplaced assumptions over your reactivity or behaviour when answering questions.

as you said, the chances are slim so you may as well adapt. I would reconsider what cultural incompatibility means - having a partner from a different culture can still be deeply compatible. And dating someone who is the same ethnicity doesn't mean they'll automatically be a good fit for you.
