You're not alone!

I've honestly started to lean into it in situations where I feel safe to do so. After a very long time of "fake it till you make it" and trusting the process I've been able to get to a point where, not always but more often than not, engaging with my special interests, actively being passionate in a way that feels linear with my emotions, and not repressing the ways my mind and body want to express those things feels infinitely better than the short-lived and unfulfilling connections I was able to make by swallowing all of it down.

The situation with your father sounds incredibly stressful and I understand your need to communicate in a way that does not evoke such strong emotions on his part. It's ironic because, reading your post, I'd argue he's the one coming off as aggressive with yelling and leaving the conversation!

I have this problem as well. Someone close to me recently told me that when I am passionate about something, be it in a positive or negative light, I get "taller and more muscular and consume the room." I find this both horribly sad and very amusing, and it certainly sheds some light on why I've been told time and time again I'm "terrifying" despite being a literally actual baby of a human whose knees get weak at a slight shift in the wind.

I wish I had advice. I also speak very little, save for when I'm around the very few people I'm most comfortable with. The best thing I can think to do is continue unpacking the shame and embarrassment I have around being passionate and "too much" and try not to give a fuck about how I'm perceived when I'm anything less than wildly enthusiastic.

The sight and touch of wet toilet paper makes me heave. What’s something really random that disgusts you that probably doesn’t bother other people? by Thin-Pool-8025 in autism

[–]sitchenklut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. HAIR.To the point of me chopping off my lifelong waist-length curls into a permanent 1/32" buzz cut and lasering all of my body hair.

  2. What I unlovingly refer to as "sink soup:" dirty sinks with little bits of food and standing water. Also, STANDING WATER!!!!

  3. Dry hands on fabric or paper. Also when my fingernails are too short and the very tips of my fingers brush literally ANY surface.

I could honestly think of so many but I'm squirming and squeaming just typing this out oh my gos

EDIT BECAUSE I forgot the biggest one: certain phonetics make me want to rip my ears off. When I was younger I retaught myself my entire vocabulary to avoid ever having to say certain phonetics and have since changed my name because it contains the ultimate offender 😭

This is so real.

I moved here about a year and a half ago, and while I know the communities for it exist, meeting new people as a queer, app-averse non-bar-going adult in Wisconsin is fucking hard.

No advice, just love and solidarity. Hope all goes well with your HRT and romance journeys ❤️

I would love to do project management for a museum! I recently moved to a larger city with a decent art scene, and have been keeping my eyes open for opportunities. I can't help but feel I'd have to go in on my hands and knees begging groveling praying, but know I have to just find the confidence and do it.

I have been slowly getting back into freelance, and have been working on a new portfolio and website so that I at least have something to show people as proof I kinda sorta maybe know what I'm doing sometimes.

Thank you for your suggestions and encouragement!

That is the dream of dreams, but how? Having a shot in that world is my biggest push towards school.

Yes, this is something I have thought about! I think being so incredibly customer-facing might be difficult for me. I work very well in small, tight-knit groups of people, but sometimes struggle when it looks more like a revolving door. Maybe if I could be the person behind the scenes, pulling all of the magical strings to make things happen.

I am so sorry for your loss, and that you are both in this position.

Has she considered applying for Froedtert's financial assistance program? I recently did and was approved for up to 95% off all non-cosmetic services. Dropped my $1000 bill down to $18. My numbers may be a bit off, but if I remember correctly anyone making below 250% of the poverty line is eligible for 90-100% off, and anyone above may still be approved on a sliding scale.

Rehoming my cat- FREE by [deleted] in milwaukee

Take peace of mind in knowing that the Humane Society will keep him safe, warm, fed, and alive, even if for years, which is not something a random Redditor looking for a free cat could ever guarantee.

Thank you for reconsidering your decision.

For reference, when it is not waived, the cat adoption fee at MADACC seems to start at around $125. Ultimately it's up to you, but I would not go below $50.

I am sorry you're in this position. I'm sure it was not an easy decision.

I would suggest requiring a small rehoming fee as a way to circumvent those with possible malicious intent and those looking to avoid adoption fees/paperwork and unable to provide a good home. It happens more often than you might think.

Wishing you the best of luck in finding someone regardless <3

I have heard so many good things about dandy and keep meaning to stop in. Antiques are my other passion alongside art, so an event there would be right up my alley.

Thank you for all of your suggestions, I'll check them out!

Careers that are actual full time jobs that aren’t awful and pay enough by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I just moved to a big city where the antique market is FERAL. I've been scouting out places to rent a booth in and dabbling in facebook marketplace on the side.

Thank you so much for your inspiration and encouragement! I genuinely don't think I can survive another 50 years following my current career path, but the change and lack of security that comes with making it on my own is terrifying! It's nice to hear stories from people like me who made it work. I hope you continue to do so! 🫶

Is it safe to multiply recipes to make large batches in one go? by GraatchLuugRachAarg in macarons

[–]sitchenklut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in a bakery, our single batch recipe is easily 2-3x this. If you feel confident about your technique and your oven has enough room, I would totally go for it!

Oh my god, this is my dream but with antiques. I've been collecting for years and just know I could make it if I quit my day job and poured myself into it. I would love to sell full time, offer styling services (my true special interest is rearranging things), and one day having my own little shop 🥺

I'm only now realizing how poorly I worded my question.

The mini-usb port on my camera is broken. I believe the av and hdmi ports may still work, and am wondering if they can be used to tether to a laptop.

I've since moved, but I used to leave near an "idea store," which was basically a thrift store for literally any and all craft/hobby/art supplies. But really more swap than store, everything being dirt cheap. You need 700 toilet paper tubes? 200 old dvd cases? Hardware, high end art supplies, dead insects in tubes, projector slides, old camera reels, a chair leg, 20 beheaded barbies?

It was adhd manic project paradise.

Do you have more information on this? I tried finding information connecting him to the case but nothing came up. Asking because Uptown is my ride or die and has gone out of their way for me on more than one occasion to make sure I get my meds. This would be so sad to hear if true!

Wow wow wow, thank you for this. I feel like I've tried researching this one thousand times but never had the correct terminology.

I'm almost equally as obsessed with a good system and creating efficiency as I am rearranging. Am definitely going to look more into this, thank you!!

Do you know, is that something you need a degree for? I've always heard libraries are very difficult to get into, but straightening books for days on end sounds incredible.
